That is the exact reason! I had Sutton Engineering rebuild the Dana, Ed said if I broke the Dana to Bring it back for a free exchange! That was 20 years ago. I just put it back in the Charger. I had no 8-3/4 and the car came with the Dana! I was going to put a Hemi in the Charger and rebuild the 4 speed using Passon passion whatever Gears.Making the 4 th gear easier on the freeway, but after driving it,I realized the Dana runs really well! So now there sits a rebuilt 8-3/4. I have the E body with a Kieth Black Aluminum Block 340 built near or across from the old Irwindale Raceway.That was demolished to build fricken Budweiser plant? They opened a second Raceway in Irwindale but it was only a 1/8 miles they just tore it down after the last race 4 th of July The track also had a circle track. I went to that race.My challenger is not up to standards for the drag-strip! It is too fast they want a Roll Cage, the Battery in the Trunk etc… that takes a boatload of Money! I paid 18000 for that Engine in 1980! That was like crazy Numbers back then. Glad I was not Married just about married ,but not quite! Anyway I got busted for street Racing in 1984 after coming home from cruising Whittier BLVD. A Whale Tail Porsche pulled out and said let’s race and I took him up on it! Stupid move! I ran up to 130 mph the Porsche screamed on by me when I saw two Sheriffs heading back to the City of Industry Station! One of them slammed on his Brakes shoved his car in Reverse and went Backwards into oncoming traffic Lights and sirens going. The other sheriff had to have seen the flame go out from under my car Straight Pipes from the headers. That is how we sometimes get away running uncorked. Next thing I see is the Porsch running toward Covina. After they pushed my car to the side I sat handcuffed on the Curb.Then here comes 2 Covina Cop Cars over to Azusa Avenue about five Miles away escorting the Porsch guy! He was immediately arrested. The Cops emptied my car took out the mounted spare tire, jack, rear seat glove Box! As I stood there the cop began writing a Ticket for Speed Competition $868.00 ticket. I went to Court 30 days Later they asked if I had an attorney? I told them no. They assigned a Public Defender he was able to talk me out of a Jail sentence, because I did not run. Next I see is the door open in the Courtroom and outward the guy I was racing in an Orange Jumpsuit. Chained feet and hands. He got a 69 day sentence so he did another 30 days! The Judge looked at me and asked if I had Bail Money told him No he then said $868.00 bail I asked for payments I told him I worked he said yes, but I had to physically go in and see him every time, I made a payment! That said, I payed $200 to the courts.I parked my Challenger it is still sitting at my shop here in Sangabriel Valley Glendora, a hole in the wall with a Tin Roof.Not like a new shop, I am talking $200 a month for the payment. I own the property that it sits on.I have finally after 20! years finished the Charger everything works on the Car! Gauges, Headlights with the Micro Switches I bought the OEM switches expensive? yes! Probably $1000.00 in switches alone. So those repops are a deal! If you need them. I pulled the Glass out of the Challenger and boy it is rusted around the window at the roof line and the lower panel between rear window and trunk. The left inner fender well is Cracked torn from the Torque of the engine I always kept oil in it and rotated the Motor just cranking it with a Battery every couple months sound good actually so I am not worried about the Engine other than not pulling it until the problem bodywork is finished.
