Back in Black.....have some new stuff coming to add. Few days. i made a puck w mix in epoxy, gave it a week cure, put in 50 ton press.....press is bleeding off at 18 tons so we couldnt het past that, but puck only compressed 30 thousandths.....NO breakage.

I've gotta read this a few times more as a lot of what's being said is going over my head. Once I get my head wraped around it I'm going to run with it. Thanks for posting.

I feel the same way. This is like talking with a brain surgeon or something. The terms and text are a bit over my head!

Youve been beamed Habib! zorry fo z delay homie. I made a puck of the epox, milled fibre and cabosil, gave it a week cure, stuck in press(bleeding off at 18 tons) were nit able to get past 18 tons due to leak, but puck only compressed 30 thsndths and NO breakage/fracturing.....18 tons.

You could always edit it out and substitute a recipe for high strength almond cookies. :)

Anyone making or wanting to make their own fiberglass pieces, one approach is to use heavy welding rod or something comparable to form skeleton of desired shape, then use expanded aluminum mesh(home depot) and shape that onto the skeleton, it is very formable yet stiff enough to hold shape..wire the mesh to skeleton in strategic points.....then if the back side has to be a well surfaced area after spreading some pf the glass filler on crowned areas to stiffen further, and when catalyzed, pop welding rods off back......now do the glass laminates on both sides(one side at a time). One laminate of medium guage cloth should be enough, then start spreading and blocking the glass filler, or bondoe if thats Your preference, til You are happy with surface.......with the glass filler, initial shaping can be done in 40 grit, bondoe id start in 80 grit.

See if any body wants to read about filler today. Pic loader freezes on me, otherwise i would post some pics of new projects. One thing, You could build a boat out of the epoxy, milled fibre & cabosil mix, and this stuff can be made cheaper
r than the closest prepkgd stuff, Evercoat Quantam which is 50 50 polyester & epoxy resin, doesnt have the milled fibre & is loaded w talcum. This is absolutely best bet for work that doesnt get metal finished.....the epoxy does not shrink...thick stiff jello mix can be laid heavy or spread thin........bondoe is so stone age

Once I get going on my junk again I will be giving this epoxy method a try. I have used it a lot when I worked for a yacht company but with no fibre or cabosil and like its properties.

Which cabo-sil are you using because in my search there are different types? Also which type and brand epoxy are you using?
Two part epoxy is not that cheap.

aeromarineplastics.com has all.......cabosil is brand name, product is fumed silica.......instructional videos....nice people....their own brand. Epox res is about 130.00 for 1.5 gal.....they have polyester too

Doing some wood refinishing.....old strat body, had a ton of checked paint & clear.....blocking it out, thing had swelled badly...so flattening it out again....that's wood......never stops moving. This will be French Polish, no chemicals other than oil & red wax.....starting in worn 40 grit
,block it up to 320 dry....then wetordry w/ oil up to 2000.....then buff in red rouge/wax..gives the wood a nice natural stain & gloss
