The black stuff is just some protective I sprayed on to keep the bare metal from rusting while I wait.

Also spotted this at a meet I went to today

good to see no rust on the lower cowl...

steve great work, just a idea you might want to keep your top radiator support top piece,it has your vin number stamped on it.

Actually didn't cross my mind. Thanks, I'll take a look at it hopefully it's laying around here somewhere. Not sure if the one that was on the car when I got it was original though

Sorry I haven't been around for awhile been doing a lot of lurking. Was working a lot but finally have had some time off to get something done to the car in the past 2 days. Went and shopped around for some steel to make a frame jig but no one had what I wanted in stock at the moment so I've just been working on the floor. Stripped the whole floor and treated it with some phosphoric acid and metal conditioner. Custom made a little patch for a rust through spot I had and welded it in. I have 2 more little ones to do then all I have to do is replace the front foot pans and the floors are done(Other then the trunk).

new floor looks great in there...

Floor's looking good man keep it up, I've done all the work on my car on the floor haha. A rotissere would have been nice for all the stripping/painting on the underside of the car but I got along just fine without one. Keep the progress comin

Been lurking for awhile and finally remembered to post an update. Moved to a new house with a garage so now the bird is sitting happy out of the weather, Front frame rails are fixed, Cleaned up the cowl area and painted it, and.....................Well check out what finally came in!

Not pictured are the floor extensions...I'm also still waiting on my inner fenders, deck filler panel, door hinges, upper cowl, passenger outer rocker, rad support, inner fender to cowl brackets. Those parts are all ordered just waiting on shipping. I'm really debating on just going with amd door shells also since mine are beat to hell and cancered on the bottom but I figured for now I'll have new door hinges to line my original doors up with the old quarters so I can get the quarters done.....I've also decided to kind of go a different way with the car. I still want it to be Y2 but I've decided to run a full cage through the car and possibly do a ladder bar setup in the back. Since finding an original trunk is impossible I'm just going to run a fiberglass one and also a fiberglass A12 Hood.

Still waiting on my hinges. Supposed to be shipping this monday finally after 3 months!! :angry9:
Patched the front foot wells

Funny thing about that is I can't work in the garage during the day at all. It just becomes an oven no matter what I do. Have to work on the car at night! ;)...Cant wait for winter! It's a little different here in california haha

I think your floor looks great! I was going to do the individual front pans and decided to buy the whole floor and cheat a little (save some work :)), I do hope it turns out as nice when the time comes! Your 69 is looking great bud... And im not to concerned with the heat build up in my small shop but, i am hoping for a good winters work this year to and its felt like fall here, deep into it in the AM for a couple days! lol, I hope it keeps away until we get our wood all done first though... Good luck man! :)

Finally got my door hinges...Was tricky hanging them by myself but I figured out a little trick with the rafters :sHa_dielaughing2:

Using the rafters it didn't take more then 10 Minutes to get the doors dialed in..I found you have to have the door hang above the quarter an 1/8 when you tighten it..Then when releasing the straps it would sag the 1/8 down and line up perfect.

And when you get through, you can be extra "proud" because you did it yourself.
Good man.

I don't know if ive been "proud" doing it myself lol, But it always was and is a relief when i can get it done myself! :) Help is hard to find sometimes so ingenuity is its best a lot of the time, at least here!

Cool idea on the rafters. Those doors can be a back breaker, especially with all the glass/hardware in them. Keep up the good work!

Fitted up the front end lastnight to see how the inner fenders fit

Everything fit well so I screwed the inner fenders in so I could put them back in the right spot after I prepped them
...Welded them up

Here they are welded and in. Prepping them for rustbullet right now

The AMD cowl to inner fender pieces fit horrible...So I'm going to try and use the to original ones I have to see if they fit any better

Steve,

Could you explain what the issues are with fit on the fenders to cowl, if you have a moment? Just want to know for future reference.

Pictures can explain 1000 words. Obviously they can be worked to fit right with a couple pie cuts but I'll give the two OEM ones I have a shot since it'd be easier to work with. If the OEM ones are the same then I guess it's the new cowl that's different. It's worse then what the pictures show
