Finally Bought My Dream Car. 1969 Roadrunner Project

I would have went with the brown or possibly silver poly trunk floor tarp. But the blue is nice too I guess.

I was assuming he was using it as a color swatch to see hot a royale blue would look

Thanks everyone I think the blue tarp looks sweet.. I have been planning on getting the car blasted at one point or another but have been putting it aside until I have the car in a garage. Which will be soon.

Well now I got myself into a little debate. I found locally a guy parting out a car that I could take the whole front section from the transmission crossmember forward. I could use the cowl on my car and remove the front stub and put it on mine. Then I would knock out the inner fenders, cowl, radiator suppourt + not have to worry about the other frame rail I still have to do. The whole stub off the other car is rust free and straight and I can get it for $350 then Make some of that up selling the firewall which is rust free and the cowl plenum. I would do it like they did in this article http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/projectbuild/mopp_0003_1969_plymouth_road_runner_re_body/
What are your guys opinions on this? Overall I think it would save money and come out cleaner

If the price is right, the other car isn't rusty, you could possibly save allot of work time & money if you have the skills & tools to get the new one/front section inner wheel wells & frames on properly & straight, make sure take tons of measurements for references before you cut anything from either car... its best to do on a frame jig or frame table to get it perfect... good luck

If I was to do it I would make a jig for the front before I did anything. Would also transfer some refrence points to the ground via laser to go off of. If I did this it would mean that basically I'd be finished with all the metal work in the front. Which would probably make me be able to finish this car fairly quick. All I would have after that is putting in the trunk floor, fixing the rear wheel houses, the rockers, and quarters.

Here's the donor stub

For $350 and some work I could have the front end totally complete. The donor had no rust. even in the trunk and floors.

If you got the means to do it, I say go for it. Then you can cut the trunk floor out for me for my car.

Looks nice. I did the same thing on my GTX, found a front end donor, it was from a 66 Coronet though.
How was the process. Glad you went that way? Looking at your thread it looks like you went way deeper then I plan to. I just plan on switching out the frame stub part of the car. I plan on doing it like this article did

I would but he's keeping it for himself. Looks like I'll be grabbing the inner wheelhouses also, well at least the bottom half to patch my car.

You'll be in as deep as me on your car, this is a big undertaking. I remember that car MCR did, hard to believe it's been since 2000! Wow.

Heres the front stub I'm going to go pick up. The guy was nice enough to remove it for me and he took a lot of care in doing so. Stoked. Going to get it blasted and epoxyd after I get it that way all I have to do is install it.

Yeah 350 bucks is a awesome deal even with the little issues I found.. The guy I got it from Sal is a pretty cool dude, he also has a bunch of badass cars along with his own roadrunner!...Anyways.. all in all the stub is in pretty good condition. But I have a couple issues with it, I assume someone in the donor cars history removed the passenger inner fender and core support because they are spot welded in a non factory way.Glad they didnt touch the driver side becuase it looks real good...No my issue with the passenger side is that it looks like they installed it a little low.

Now if this wont cause alignment issues then thats cool and I'll leave it(But I will spot weld it the right way) So my question is will this create a hassle for me in the future? Because if it will I'm going to remove the inner fender and move it up.
--------------------------------
Now the core support was spot welded along the seam like so

I don't really have a problem with it but I'm going to grind down those welds and do some real spot welds like how it's suppose to be so it's more visually pleasing.
--------------------------------
Now this piece I am going to remove and put on the right way. It's lop sided and is about a half inch to far to the left.

One of the K-member nuts that are in the frame broke off also. So I believe I will have to cut open the frame and re weld that nut back in there. I will give all the other ones the same treatment so I don't have to deal with this when 400+hp rips it out....The other side looks untouched and looks great.

Nice score indeed! I would wait until you do the assembly before you start taking it apart, you can fix it later if it is off alignment.

I have to say. I like the way you think! That way I can test fit my fenders. Then if there's a problem I'll take care of it. But I will definitely have to square up the little thing on the core support. I also think I will fix the K-Member mounts before I Install it though.

doing one hell of alot of work there. coming along nice too.........more power too ya.
