Finally Bought My Dream Car. 1969 Roadrunner Project

Like I've said before. You knew my intentions for the pieces and failed to mention the fact you had cut off the front of the frame rails. You knew I wanted the front 10 inches as a graft in piece and you knew I wanted the whole inner fender as a swap in piece. You're perfect and my perfect are way different because I would never call a piece perfect if it was blatantly missing the front.

Also these 2 pictures you sent me clearly do not show the cut. The look to be intact

You tell me how I'm supposed to notice there cut in the front when you send me two bite sized images taken from the back side of the inner fenders
Not to get into a pissing contest with you my friend, but those pictures clearly show exactly how these things were cut. Don't blame me for your lack of familiarity with the parts you are dealing with. Had you asked me to accurately describe and measure the cuts, I would have done so. I assumed you saw what you were asking for and had all the information you needed. I'm not a psychic!

If your so familiar with your mopars then you should of known when I said "I need the front 10 inches" that maybe you should of mentioned the fact that they where cut an inch back. Your pictures where small and from they way you described it they where perfect. When I hear perfect I think nothings missing or wrong with it. Same goes for the inner fenders.

No cracks. I've already checked

There was clearly some mistakes on both sides. I'm thinking about just keeping them and working with the front inch since it's better then what I got at the moment. Not to mention don't really feel like dealing with having to ship them. I'll just get my money's worth out of them.

Steve, just eyeballing where you made the cuts at the firewall, you will probably be ok with those panels. Some time spent matching the cuts and stitch welding (gas if at all possible) will get you a nice seam you can grind and fill smoothly...I've done a bunch of them over the years.
Offer still stands though, if you want to send them back, I'll take them.

Look at the pics! Do you see anything that resembles the core support in them? Yopu never described the damage you were trying to repair, only that the front ten inches of the rails had some damage. The area between the K frame and core support does nothing but support the bumper. When I have replaced them, usually due to rot, I cut at the core support so as to leave that structure intact, and graft from there back. Again, not a psychic!

Didn't make any cut's at the firewall. Just drilled out the old spot welds. I'll work with the frame rails. The driver inner I can fix the rust spot/drill the spot welds and use it. Passenger side I can cut straight then use my old panel to patch the front. That or just buy new ones. But I'll try and make the old one's work.

I removed my core support without touching my frame. Looks real similar to your pictures. How am I supposed to know you didn't do what I did.

Also I told you exactly the damage I had and what I intended to do.
" I need like 10 inches of the front frame rail's to graft onto my bent ones. Mine are bent right after the K- Member so they'd be perfect"

not taking sides, just speaking from my experences...ask for pictures of ALL sides, send a picture(s) of the excate area you need to replace. and if at all possible(usually not) go look at the replacement parts in person.

Yeah I know. I usually do all those things just slipped up. But lesson learned and at least it happened on a cheap part that can still be put to use. Not worried about it anymore and moving on since I got bigger fish to fry.:icon_sunny:

Yes it should have been mentioned that the front one inch had been cut off, that is grade school common sense. That said you have to give Whitepunk cudos for offering to take it back.
Carry on.

Leveled the car out and checked the up down on the front frame rails + rear just for the hell of it. There perfect and not bent up or down. So once I fix the very front of the frame rail. I don't think I should have anything to worry about. Also checked the in-out a few weeks ago. They dont appear to be pushed in at all. I just took that measurement off the firewall. When the ground dry's up I'll be laying out the car on the ground with a plumb bob and get a more accurate look.

Reason for not having any updates is that it's been pretty much raining every other day down here. So I keep her covered up.

Awesome project man! Always loved Roadrunners. It's funny how similar our stories are, I'm also 20, and we defintely are a dying breed with most of our generation obsessed with lowering hondas and slapping on autozone scoops :disgust:

Just posted the buildthread for my '69 Charger, and I'll be keeping an eye on this one. Good luck! :icon_thumleft:

Thanks bro!. I'll check out your thread in a bit. Just about to get my tax return. So I'll be able to make some more progress on the ol runner.

Damn we really aren't too far off from each other then! Haha, I've gotta get mine done too.
And cool deal, i'll help when I can if you hit any roadblocks. the local mopar guy here that's been helping me out is in the middle of his true hemi '69 rr. We've been helping each other out a lot so I've gotten about as familiar with them as Chargers at this point haha

This is some real inspiration and watching, reading you sure arent afraid of tackling a job like this.. I love the 69 RR's and even more seeing one repaired and all this work your doing is fantastic! I do wish you luck but i wonder if you need it, you seem to have a good handle on it all!! Ill be watching and im sure this is going to be a great car hands down...

Well I havent been working much on the roadrunner. Started on the trunk awhile back then finally started on it again today. Got most of it out but have a few questions about what I should do in certain areas (In your opinion)

How would you guys tackle the trunk floor to wheel house seam. Wasn't aware they where spot welded all across the bottom of the seam underneath the trunk and I dont want to butcher the wheel houses up. Would you guys crawl underneath the car and drill them all out. Or is there another way.
Heres where I'm at right now on the trunk. I stopped and wanted to get some advise before I went any further.

Thank you. I'm willing to go through whatever hoops I have to in order to get this car on the road.

Also got this tank on a 99 Year Lease from my local west air gases and equipment. $223 for the bottle with the C25. I think that's pretty good since its a 99 Year Lease. They have a great shop and have been around here for over 20 years....Still waiting on my Hobart 210 MVP to come in though. Damn Hobart hasn't shipped it yet and I ordered it on Tuesday!

Are you going you replace the whole trunk floor? 99 year lease, huh? I hope it doesn't take ya that long to use it up.LOL.

Yeah the whole trunk floor is being replaced. I have a feeling I'll be tinkering with my welder a lot so I'd hope not :laughing6:. Gonna pancake an extra hood for a c10 I have laying around to get some practice before I hit the roadrunner. ;]

Well there's a good picture of why not to run Air shocks on a Mopar....As far as drilling out the spot welds for the inner wheel well, take off the rear wheels and drill them out from the outside. Changing out the rear crossmember opens up a whole new can of worms for you. Taking off the rear fill panel isn't too bad; just connects to the pan, gutters, X-member lip, and tail light buckets. The crossmember ties into the frame rails, shackle mounts, fill panel, extensions, and pan. Bunch more work and if it does in fact need to come out, be sure to jig, secure or measure reference the frame rails/shackle mounts before moving forward with it. They will move a bit. Save that spare tire/jack mount if you can and the trunk latch support. The AMD fill panel will come with the reinforcements, but not the latch support. I would also recommend you document the location for the two J-bolt mounts to transcribe to your new pan

You can save that picture and show people if you'd like to scare people out of air shocks if you'd like hahaha.
Thanks I figured that was the way to do the wheelhouse area. As for the rear crossmember it's staying attached to the car. It just has a crack in it I need to fix. other then that it's in good shape. Will do on the j-bolts. Pretty sure I marked there location but I'll double check.
But in better news. Look what I went and picked up today!
Hobart was on back order so when I saw this 211 with mvp at the westair gasses I had to grab it. $1038 which was 100 more then the hobart.

Nice...Good machine. You'll like it. I wouldn't rely on the auto set...Never had a whole lot of faith/luck in it with my Millermatic

I read through your thread today Stevo and am quite impressed...keep it up and with the help these guys provide you'll be there eventually! I got into My 70 RR .. inspiration from my Dad. Also nice C10

also a suggestion if you haven't found it contact the guy who sold it to the guy ... he may have your fender tag in his toolbox or somewhere ... happened with me on previous purchases :)

I was gonna play with it a little to see how good it was. But your right I'll mostly be going off manual mode.
