Finally Bought My Dream Car. 1969 Roadrunner Project

Was there a story to go with the hemi Challenger?

Original RT 383 4 speed challenger. He bought it a long time ago with a 440. He built the whole car ....the guy was an awesome old school dude. Car saw strip and a lot of street action back in the day I was told.

Man, I love that Challenger! thats sweet!!!

Basket case, Nice bird buddy!!! Love the color and the stance!!!

So spent some time on the wheels. A lot of sanding and just started polishing.

Primer Grey...not sure what the paint code is......:icon_mrgreen:

those slots look great!

So right now I basically cut the quarter "skin" off to access the wheelhouse and Dutchman panel. What would be the easiest way to go about replacing the Dutchman panel... Should I fit the new Dutchmen panel to the old quarters. Then completely remove them. Or should I leave the old Dutchman panel and fit the new quarters to that.... I'll be waiting on some insight before I dig any further into the car. Thanks guys image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Tiny bit of wheelhouse damage in the lower section from the hit. But nothing serious. Luckily I'm dehumping the wheelhouses so it won't pose any problems..no cancer behind the quarters so I consider myself lucky.

Here's the slight damage. Almost looks like the car just bounced off two guardrails..Possibly down a drag strip? Hahaha

And bondo bondo bondo View attachment 217265 the quarter skin I took off weighed double that of the new quarter...must be a whole gallon on just the skin alone

I had the same thing on mine. No rot on the wheelhouses, but gawd was the bondo thick on the 1/4 skins.

It wont bother nothing unless im missing something to put the quarter skins on it, the dutchman can be replaced later im sure, BUT be comfortable in how you build it, we have to enjoy the build... Thats how i look at it, i love this stuff!!!

not really "at the leisure of the builder" just real life rearing it's ugly head from time to time. Was supposed to be painted this Spring, but the furnace died the day before Thanksgiving, cold *** winter, heating oil went sky high, daughter got married, made up my mind I wanted to drive the car to The Nats, then my body guy started a 12 hour a day regular day job, winter coming again, Christmas on the way, the usual stuff! But still having fun with it.

By the way there " Thanks much Dave!!!

Thanks for the tips guys.. I'll have to check out your thread in a bit. Also the car isn't getting skins it's getting full quarters. I just didn't want to pull the whole quarter off yet but wanted to see the condition of everything behind it.

Mine got full quarters too, plus trunk floor, extensions, Dutchman panel (and a couple of inner repair bits) outer wheel houses and door skins...

Cool I'll have to check out your thread when I get done organizing my garage. Can't work in a messy environment hahaha

Guess, i missed the full quarters but don't think it should be a problem... Im replacing everything from the back of the doors to.. the back, lots of stuff but, its part of it i guess, you'll get it and maybe it is better to replace one thing before the other, i don't have a problem learning, just doing lol.. Good luck..:)

Checked out your thread hsor. You and your body shop have been doing a great job on your car. I got another question for whoever knows. At the Quarter/Dutchman panel seam. Did the factory use sealer in between. Is there a tooled joint of sealant on top or is it just painted. Hard to tell with my car

Wrestling this quarter right now. Hope to have it off tomorrow. I never ordered the window corners for the car so I'll find out how these ones look when I get the quarter off. Crazy to think once these quarters go on the majority of sheetmetal work will be over other then little things here and there. image.jpg

image.jpgimage.jpgSo here it is as it sits at the moment. Separating the quarter from the wheelhouse was a nightmare haha. From all the previous hammer work it was very hard to tell whereabouts the spot welds where at.. Just have to get this last little piece behind the door off and we are good
