For all of You Train Lovers

Actually there's **** pile of things that need lubricated.

"Modern" steam had an automatic lubrication system that used steam or air pressure.

Decided to take advantage of our freedoms on this wonderful Veterans Day and go back in time one hundred years.

If you haven't been to Strasburg Railroad and the Strasburg Railroad Museum in Lancaster Pa. it's worth the trip. Went with my friend and her five year old grandson. You might say we've moved up from the yearly train gardens!

A short intro to the video, The train hooks to the rear of the cars, then pulls them to the end of the line where it unhooks from the rear, moves to the front for the trip back. It's a 45 min round trip through Amish country. The cars were heated so the high twenty deg temps weren't noticed.

The Museum is across the street from the train ride and is packed full of some cool trains, exhibits, and lots of history.

Finished out the day visiting a favorite diner in that area, Rt.30 Diner, about five miles from Strasburg. They're very patriotic and serve more than you can eat for a very generous price.

Met quite a few Veterans today and of course showed our appreciation. Even the gal taking orders in our train car was a vet!

You know most of us like old motors running.

I think I’ve said it a couple times ... but Thanks again for sharing I enjoy the big iron and steel monsters that ruled the rails . I’d love to take a steam trip with family sometime , I need to find one near St. Louis but must be able to get my dad aboard is my concern.

I’m sure the U.P big boy will be making its rounds this summer. I bet it will come close or through St. Louis.

Yup. Looks like August 29th.

I want to see and hear it bad, St Louis here I come
Me too. Hopefully they send it out west in the next couple years. I did get to see the challenger back in the early 90’s when it came to Portland. I saw it in Hinkle, which is the main diesel shop and yard by Hermiston, Oregon.

There is a steam excursion train operating near St. Louis but it is only a one foot scale model. That said, it might be easier for Dad to get aboard!

About 100 or so miles south is this:

They have a steam engine but I believe it is under restoration A Diesel is filling in.
And the Museum of Transportation is just west of STL. No excursion train but it's worth the trip.

Been to both a dozen times. We use to swim in the Meramec in Glencoe and watch the trains when we were kids, great time. My brother does volunteer work at the Museum of Transportation. They have the Chrysler turbine car there.
