I always wondered, what are those "blinders" for on Limey locomotives?
They aren't just on British locomotives, they're also on that German example, and used on American steamers. Those are smoke deflectors, to change the airflow to let the engineer get a cleaner breath of air, and keep cinders out of his eyes.
