I have Stage V aluminum heads with freeze plugs on each end. It has the rubber expandable plugs right now, and it will not allow my new alternator to fit. I need to take out the rubber plug and install a concave plug. Which plug should I use in aluminum? Brass, steel, copper, etc… Thanks

I would use a aluminum plug and some Wellseal jointing compound

I would use steel, which is the correct choice. I don't like brass as they can be installed improperly and leak, or worse, fall out. If you don't have the expensive "Loc-Tite" core plug sealant, just use Permatex non-hardening sealer. Do NOT use RTV or silicone sealers!!!

If you use the "deep" brass plugs that are made like the steel plugs, you won't have the popping out issue.
Brass is more forgiving than steel which helps with sealing.

The OP has AL heads, so dis-similar metals may be more of a concern.

I've not used AL plugs, so can't speak to that.

Do they make aluminum plugs? Anyway, why not contact the manufacturer and get their recommendation?
