fuel issues again, Rustyradrod please chime in but be kind

I give up, Benno. Sorry, Man. Too much drama. Good luck with your project. Hope it gets out of the garage some day.

I doubt .075" will make or break this project but only if you have contact with the push rod. If the pump lever or rod is moving you should get something. Are you sure you primed the pump properly? Do you have fuel gushing from the inlet (line from tank) when you disconnect it?? Is the tank vented? Take the cap off to make sure. Perhaps use a hand vacuum pump with the brake bleeder jar to initiate some flow. I wonder if these race pumps need to be gravity fed, and if so, you may have to put a sump on the bottom of the tank.

yeh meeps i have tried all of the above, pump has fuel at it because i filled the lines but no movement inside the pump, its definetly touching as you can see wear on the end of the pushrod but just not moving enough to pump

Just for fun get a stock replacement pump and see if it moves fuel. Use the exact same push rod too. And you did verify the pushrod wasn't worn? I think that was already addressed but want to be sure the obvious isn't overlooked.

good idea, i have an old stock holley one here.
pushrod is brand new also

i thought someone already mentioned those race pumps are presurising devises and require a feed pump to work properly.just try a std pump to run the motor.if it works get a good mechanical pump.

OK this is just stupid. Everything is new. Nothing can be worn that badly, so something is WRONG. and I mean application specific WRONG. Are you aware the big MoPar and small chebbie have the same mount bolt pattern? All of those pumps look the same, so it would be hard to tell.

true dat rusty. good point will look into that one

In other words what I'm gettin at is, it seems to me everything checks out on the engine side. I'd be lookin at that pump. Lessie. You said the fuel pump lobe checks out but is .075" short, and the pump rod is good. You also have said the fuel pump does NOT work on the engine. .075" aint gonna do nuthin to fuel pump operation. In fact, it could be mistake in measurement....I mean you gotta get that dial indicator DEAD center and on the same plane as that pump rod or your reading will be off...so I'm callin the pump lobe and rod good. Make damn sure that pump is for a big block MoPar.

yeh well racepumps reckon i have a defective cam because its only .300, the pushrod for the pump to operate properly only needs to move 8mm (whatever that is in inch) so i will double check the lift again and get some more feedback from lunati.
In the meantime, i have made my mind up and gonna try one of those clay smith mechanicals out as propwash recommended, other benefit is the racepump reg will worj with it and it has 1/2" inlet/outlet fittings already so happy days

Tell you what. Go stack up .075" on a set of feeler gauges and get back with me. Tell me if you think that will stop a pump from operating. It won't, I promise.

I have the same problem with my 440. It used to vapor lock in traffic, which is common with headers so close to the pump. It also has to crank forever to start after sitting. I had the stock HP pump and a Hemi pump on it. Same result. You could watch the pressure drop as it sat and idled. (I run a regulator with a gauge)

I installed a Mr Gasket 2-4 psi electric pump back by the tank. The problems went away 100%.... BUT, it seems now that the pressure has dwindled down to only what the electric pump puts out. If I unplug it, the pressure drops to zero and she dies. The mechanical pump seems to have quit working altogether. I have not checked stroke yet. The engine has 2500 miles.

Sounds similar huh?

running presure to the feed side of a pump that is not designed for that normally results in the diaphram splitting inside.you mechanical pump is prob bad and my be dumping fuel into the eng oil.make sure your oil doesnt smell like fuel.

Both pumps bench test good, no fuel in the oil.

It's like the lobe is gone...or I'm insane..

I'm going to put the 7psi Mr Gasket pump in there instead of the 2-4 and check the pump rod travel this spring.
