Fuel line size

Hi everyone, I am new to the site and have been reading many posts, which are full of very good info. I currently have a 69 Roadrunner and I am running a stock 383. I have plans on building a stroker out of a 400 block. May go with a 471 or 496 combo. Hopefully it will make 500 hp and plan on running it with stock manifolds to keep that stock look. It will only be used as a street car. I replaced the fuel sending unit a few years back and I purchased a 5/16 unit. The car has the original 5/16 lines. Do I need to upgrade to a 3/8 sending unit and 3/8 fuel line? Some say they have run in the 10's with 5/16 lines.
 
I,m planing the same thing..470/400 stroker..Yes you will need to go to bigger line..I,m also going to electric fuel pump...Fuel starvation is a bad thing..My buddy has done all this to his 66 belvedere.He is runnin low 12,s on street tires with 3.91 gears..You can buy a short block 400 ready to build for less than 4 grand...

Well my sons Dart has a 400 in it with the stock 5/16 fuel line and it has run 11.45 @ 117 with no fuel problems. I have 3/8 line on my 63 with my 493 and it seems fine as I have only run it once but the carb was lean as it was surging in the top of the gears but not like a lack of fuel because when I shfted it would be ok until I ran the gear out. Still ran 11.0's. I think 3/8 will be fine but alot guys just go right to 1/2" line which definetly will work. Ron
 
I take it you will be running one 4 BBL? Consider this. All of the fuel your engine will ever use has to pass through two needle and seat assemblies with an orifice about .1" in diameter. From there the fuel goes through a main jet with yet a smaller restriction. Personally I think you will be fine with 5/16" line with a good pump. I'm running 12.80's on a 5/16" line.

Also, an in-line electric helper pump mounted up on the rear cross-brace will help keep the hydrcarbons a-flowing just fine through a 5/16" line.
