Friend has 69 Charger with a 400.

Suddenly will not start. today we took a look and I did not see any fuel in the clear plastic fuel filter. Suspect fuel pump.
Cleared all fuel hoses and filter and not clogged. Free flowing.

Cranked motor with coil off and pump spurted fuel like a fountain.

NOT steady kinda on and off. Like a heart beat.
Stop start, stop, start.

Reconnected everything and noted fuel spurting in the bottom of clear filter but not filling.

Earlier this year with this set up it ran just fine.

What do U folks think might be goin on?

Oh BTW he had new carb installed last year and noted 5/16 line from pump to filter and a 5/16 line to a 6in metal fuel line connected with 3/8 line from metal line to the carb Kinda loose fitting from the metal line to the 3/8 fuel hose.

Lesson do not use Gary Box to work on your MOPAR. he is a chevy guy.

The pump runs off a separate lobe on the cam so yes, it would spurt like a heart. If fuel is getting to the filter but not past it, maybe there is a plug somewhere past the filter or in the carb? Just a guess, bro.

Bad check valve in fuel pump will let pressure bleed off and gas flow back into line sometimes...

Sometimes the fuel pump pushrod will wear down the tip because of poor oil today.
I just sold an original pushrod to someone here on FBBO just because of that! I also heard that the replacement rods aren't as high quality these days, thats why he wanted an old original one...
Might want to slip it out and measure the length of it to be sure....
