Gass Monkey

I don't think anyone is disputing the LS is a great "Cheap" platform, that is very capable of making good power levels... But that isn't what they are after, they really aren't modifying the engine, it's just a "cheap ***" alternative, to what should be used... IMHFO the LS platform, it doesn't belong in a Dodge & I like Chevy's, I'm not a hatter like some guys are.... GM stuff is the absolute cheapest way to build, let alone go fast... It's all about the $$$, being cheap, instead of doing the right thing... It's like putting a Chrysler LA 360 in a 99ss Camaro, it really shouldn't be done.... my $0.02 cents

I agree but it was not going to be a high dollar truck and was supposed to be a quick flip for 15k... so going the route they did makes sense. All he is going to do is clear coat it the way it is as well so... rat rod.. cheap pos looking what ya got laying around lets see if we can make it work truk....LOL Honestly it wouldn't be a high dollar truck no matter if they built it all mopar. It has a face only a mother could love...LOL

The other show that isn't bad ( alot of money ) is kounting kars at least he does them right.

With all the mods + labor they had to do to the frame to get the chevy in it they could have saved some $$$$ by sticking even a junk yard 318 or 360 in it. Some times I think they get the million dollar stare going and forget that sometimes the cheapest route is not the most profitable or the least expensive.
I like the show but just wanted this time to slap the TV and yell "WTF?"

I like Kounting Cars too. At least he seems to have a much better respect for the classics. I'll watch Gas Monkey when there's nothing else on that's worth watching but that's about it. And Chevy engines are cheap unless you have a tendency to blow them up quickly then they can become expensive :D

I used the front clip from a later model (don't remember what year, it was at a junkyard) Dodge truck on my 64 D200 CrewCab Uteline. Got independent front suspension, modern disc brakes, and, as a bonus, it freaking FIT. A couple of simple cuts and welds. Plus, I was able to bolt in any Mopar small block of my choosing. They were creating a Franken-truck on purpose.

LOL .. don't blame bad tuning on the engine :)

I'm watching counting cars as we speak, really like it just wish they showed more of the build. As for gas monkey, *** monkey, whatever I can't stand that guy, their are certain personalities that just drive you nuts "he's it" can't stand the dude.

Im a loyal fast n loud watcher.

Anyways, what I don't like is they half *** all the builds to maximize profits. They'd make better quality cars easier if they put the effort into making them right.

I'll tell you why... the chevy engine is one of the best running motors on the planet and they wanted a good running truck. :)

whoa, whoa whoa with the chevy talk, there big boy!!!! lol

sure, LS motors (and SBC's for that matter) are cheap and plentiful; but we as die-hard MoPar men and women don't bend to convention!!

we want Ma MoPar's engineering in our cars, not the General's or anybody else's!!! that's the whole point of MoPar!!! we do it our way, or not at all!!!! :spam dragon:

I enjoy the show, it's entertaining and they show that they don't always make money on the cars, often loosing money.
I think they will be lucky if they don't loose money on the Dodge Truck.
Too bad they wrecked the black Mustang, I was curious what it would sell for?

That phantasm show looked ok.

That phantasm show looked ok.

you mean Fantom Works on Velocity channel Sundays {same time a drag racing, I'd rather watch NHRA}}, I did see the re-run, they did a half a$$ed 63 Corvette {$62,000 for what they did was a little steep} & decent 31 Ford with yet another damn Chevy engine...LOL...{for $20,000} But that shop owner seems like a stuck up A-Hole... he did have a 70 Cuda in the shop thou... It does seem a little more like some normal schmoes shop thou...

A show that I really like that is the polar opposite of these clowns is "Chasing Classics". Each episode represents months if not years of time finding, working on, and selling a car. So it's much more realistic in that way. And the guy and his business and the way he deals with people and even cars is all class - the exact opposite of how the Gas Monkeys behave.

That's a good one. Definitely on another level. The "rich people of Connecticut" level, lol. Dealing with the type of cars that end up at Pebble Beach, where $1M isn't even that much, ouch. Carini is the kind of guy who knows where to put the hidden overspray, stray marks, proper tiny stickers, bolts, etc. that make something really authentic. Good stuff!

What's My Car Worth is another good one that's on occasionally. It's fun to see what the three collectorcar dealers bid on each car, then see what it actually gets at auction, all in the same show. Then of course I can blow 4-6 hours just watching one day of Mecum or BJ, lol. Dream dream dream...

Fantom works is more realistic as far as cost. If you pay to have some one restore a car and then set a time limit it will cost more because of the ot to complete it on your dead line. Good. quality work cost money and that vette had been hit hard enough to bend the frame. Plus the guy wanted a custom top made for it and that can't be cheap. So I can see 60 grand cost. The 32 was done the way the guys dad had done it in tribute to his father. While I would not have done the chevy I understand where he was coming from since I lost my dad when I was 6. I have a feeling that the labor went way over that $20 grand mark, but I think his metal guy might have done some of that work off the clock, as the metal guy has a passion for old steele. Chasing Classic Cars is a class act, no doubt. He is about the chase and finding the car and telling a story of that rare car he found. Definitely A++. The auctions like Mecum and Barret just depress me (lol).

now I don't know a thing about auctions, never even been to one. But why would Gas Monkey time after time sell with no reserve? you have to at least cover your expenses. If it doesn't sell, you try again another day.

yeah or sell on the Inter-web like he says, he has a guy, that's all he does, working for him already on the payroll.... makes no sense, but it's a TV show, it's just entertainment.... nothen' more nothen' less

The Chevrolet stuff is all cheap junk. Their a dime a dozen. Nothing unique about their product. They don't stand out in a crowd like a Mopar ever does.
