I have seen where they used a OMC 2 stroke out board motor and put it in a dune buggy...

Thinking about a future project with all the leftover parts I have except for a body and a drive train I have enough to do another car once I get this one done and its basically a driver and I want to do something that's never been done before

How about a hot rod Yugo? :icon_compress:

Already been done! Meet the Morreti Turbo Uno.

I have thought about this since 2005. Eversince I heard a 3.0 v6 mercury optimax on the dyno while working there. Best sounding engine ever.... (but you never hear them because the exhaust is usually in the water)

One day I hope to engineer this into something to make it work but you would have to figure out how to make a cooling system work with it. Also the blocks are designed to be run vertical and oiling as such as well as bearings. So may be some issues in that regard.

Keeping with mopar..... a dodge colt
I was thinking more along the lines of a 2 stroke diesel set up or an 8 cylinder version of a dirt bike.... the cooling is not that hard to figure out.... casting a block and forging the related parts would be expensive.... geting a vertical engine to run horizontally wouldn't be all that hard... something to pull my car / boat/ bike experience together.....

Well they can be done but the cooling system will require a custom manifold from the back side of the block and a water pump (water pump is usually in the leg assembly). Running horizontally probably wouldn't be much of an issue since the 2 stroke oil in the fuel is what lubes the journals and is done with intake air charge and not a lube system. But would probably need a good back tilt to keep thrust in check. The hardest part would be mating it to a transmission. They typically have a female spline on the crank output and would need an input shaft and some sort of clutch to work with it not to mention some sort of bell housing adapter. The custom machine work is cost prohibitive and that is why you don't see it more often.
