Golden Goddess heart surgery

You guys did well, don’t worry about what others say.

I can see why he ran off when the welding got done

Not really, I wanted to get him home so he could rest up for work. Todays goal is get these areas s ground down and get body filler and seam sealer where they need to go. It’s actually cleaning up pretty nice.

@Kern Dog started a thread asking about grinding down welds, these came recommended, 36 grit and 80 grit. They work pretty darn good

I have used the technique of taking the die grinder and at a 90 degree angle, cut the welds down to about where they need to be, then take discs on a standard 4 inch grinder and dress the area like you would a paint buffer. I'd love to be good enough to just prime and paint after doing the grinding but hey...reality is that every repair will require some amount of filler.

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BODY FILLER DONE CORRECTLY!

I stumbled across “Pole barn garage” on YouTube. He makes roadkill look like a high end custom shop. He is the down to earth throw it together man of reason with no bullshit. He’s done a few budget paint jobs on his cars, and he’s really who inspired me to tackle this project. And that’s the thing he keeps repeating. We’ve all seen the horror stories of bondy filler, but that’s because of wrong prep and over use. Use it right and it’s fine

Some parts - amazing

Some parts - still need work.

This is actually pretty fun. Earbuds in drowning out the world, just slap it on, wait, and sand. Me and the car, like Metallica says nothing else matters

The roof seams are still giving me fits, lots of trial and error, I’ll have to call it quits for today, I’m wiped out. The a pillar seam and a couple other places turned out great though so here’s some nice amateur bodywork to look at

2 big questions

On the seam sealer, I bought 3m for a caulk gun, do I just lay a nice bead and call it good, or do I smooth it out. If so what’s the best way

On the primer, I know spray a layer check, fix / sand what needs to be. But once I’m done with all that and I have the last layer of primer, do I sand before paint?

I think I’m just down to just 3 spots. I bought some spot putty because I keep getting pits, I think I’ve gotten better at mixing the filler, but it’s still a lot of trial and error

And pretty ******* pissed, I guess I got lost and sanded below my trim line

What's yer putty to hardener ratio? Caint use too much hardener or it won't be workable fer too long. Gotta take your environmental influences into account too. :)

Well I think the body work is done. And I put in the seam sealer. It’s a little messy on the sides, but that’ll sand off, it’s clean where it matters, I’m sure the factory wasn’t perfect

What is next? Primer, a couple coats of paint and then a vinyl top?
