I found an F440 HP block on FBMP, it was so cheap, I thought it was a scam. I'm used to parts gougers trying to get top dollar out of junk. I got the block for 450! Only issue was it was in TX. I was planning on going back to Arkansas to get some other parts anyway, so another 8 hours and I'd be at his place. Last week, one of my close friends called and asked if I still needed that block picked up, I said yeah, why? He said his friend bought a car in TX and if the block was close, they'd grab it for me. I got the address from Stan, the guy with the block, and my buddy said it was only a few hours out of the way. So fast forward and he got back with it last thursday. I need to go up one day this week and pick it up.
Also got a set of 70 challenger front seats for 300. I'm heading to Arkansas next week and will swing by through KY to get those seats on the way back. There are still some good people out there selling at reasonable prices, just wanting to help other guys get their cars together. These are for my 70 Challenger RT car I've had forever and done nothing with.

Sometimes you get lucky on Facebook Marketplace. There was an F440 block advertised locally for $1000. I had an F440 block fully machined and ready to build but I was always on the lookout for a better date code match for my GTX.

The ad had been listed for a week, or more, and zooming in on his pictures, I could see an aluminum intake and other parts in the background. I made arrangements to go out the next morning to check it out.

It turned out this motor was one he pulled out of his Super Bee back in the 80's when he wrecked it. He had coated all of the machined surfaces on the block and crank with heavy, thick grease that had hardened like concrete over the years. Couldn't see anything obviously wrong and didn't want to spend all day trying to clean all of the dried-up grease off the cylinder walls.

He was asking $1000 for everything, and I offered $600. We settled at $650. He said he had been messaged about the motor, but no one ever showed up!

After having the block and crank hot tanked, what I ended up with was an excellent, low mile, standard bore F440 HP block out of the same plant that was a perfect date code match for my GTX. Along with the block, I also got:

Std/Std low mile steel crank
Six pack balancer. The super rare concave, not flat face one in mint condition
Six pack rods
Edelbrock/Direct Connection CH4B intake manifold
Electronic distributor 3690432, harness and an RB to B adapter
M/T "Made in Japan" valve covers
Pair of cylinder heads and other miscellaneous stuff

Moral of the story is you never know what you'll score off FB. Around here, F440 blocks are hard to find and usually priced like they were made out of gold. All in all, I think I made out okay....lol.
