Got my windshield replaced yesterday :)

Thanks! They were very careful, and the older dude was keeping an eye on everybody. That made me feel a heck of a lot better.

That was actually more informative than I expected, they look like they were on the ball. Cool deal! Great pics too :headbang:

Nothing like a new windshield!! My wife and kid seems to attract rocks etc and I had to replace two with them behind the wheel and then my wife got a small star on my Dakota right after it got a new glass. At least it's not traveling and not in line of sight.

I used one of those Fix-a-chip kits on my toyota, worked lie a charm! I highly recommend it, and they're dirt cheap. Those stars can expand with heat and cold, so keep an eye on it.

The windshields are surprisingly tough. Just don’t twist them.
I’ve done this on several A bodies. But I drive them all the time.
The reason the windshields were prone to leaking was that the factory put something like “plumber’s putty” in the channel.
When I put the gasket back in I use polyurethane sealant first in the channel. Then when I get the windshield in, I clean it up with mineral sprits.
I’ve actually removed and reinstalled windshields with out the rubber coming back out.
It’s glued into the car.
I remove the sharp edges with a belt sander to make it easier to “shoe horn” the windshield into the rubber. I keep the old gaskets stretched between two posts while I’m working on the car or the old rubber will draw up.
Now go on and laugh at the tight wad.
But we did spring for a new gasket for my son’s Charger. Once the windshield is cracked it is best to contain it. It starts making a mess.

If it works, and it's cheaper, it's smart!!!

I did see the old plumbers putty and some canvas looking wrap that was in the metal channel, the guys had a hell of a time getting that putty out of there. The owner told me these cars were a pain, because you had to put glue down under the gasket, then under the glass in the gasket, then on top of the glass also, making a weird Glue/Rubber/Glue/Glass/Glue/rubber Club sandwich.

Kudos to you for tackling that yourself, would have saved me a pretty penny if I had the guts to tackle myself.
