Government Tax on classic cars

I agree with Cranky. I'm not a liberal nor am I right wing conservative. I vote for the person that I think will do the best job. The problem with politicians is that they forget that they're not elected to vote with their party or with their friends or even to vote what "they think". They're elected to represent their constituents!! They should be voting for what we want. You and I know that their constituents are fed up with the BS that's being rammed down our throats. We 're getting it from the feds and we're getting it at state levels too. I love this country and I wouldn't even hint at leaving but I'll tell ya something... I will be more involved that I've ever been and my goal is to see a sweeping change in the legislators of this country.
If Connecticut gets away with this other states will surely follow. In NJ, that idiot Christie will be jumping on this band wagon. If he gets away with collector cars he'll start looking at guns, boats, atv's, and airplanes. That is unless it's owned by one of his millionaire buddies. He'll find an exemption for them. This whole thing really pisses me off.

Everything I've ever heard Christie say he is trying to cut taxes not increase them.
I can't see Chris Christie implementing any kind of tax like this. NOW your former Governer I would say he would do it in a hartbeat.

Stepped in What?

As April Fool’s gags go, the Shelby American Automobile Club’s 2011 spoof did not seem especially convincing. Until, that is, hundreds of classic car lovers across the country were duped, became enraged and started to organize against a nonexistent threat.

Red flags seemed to dot this particular issue of The Times, however. The article about the car tax appeared next to another about a study showing that recreational polka dancers have significantly lower rates of colon cancer. (A diet of kielbasa and stuffed cabbage was cited as a probable explanation.)

Googled and found this here

Any one care to Polka?

Yep, but while Mustang Club article was a spoof, the State of Connecticut did have a bill in the State House, H.B.5580, that would have substantially raised the property taxes on approximately 40,800 vehicles registered with CT "Early American" plates. It would have also excluded an an additional 7800 vehicles, currently registered as "Early American", from that class, requiring their owners to re-register which standard issue plates. Fortunately, the bill died in the house.

The real issue here is that many states, most of whom are already in budget crisis, are looking at "Antique" registered vehicles as a possible stream of additional tax revenue.

Gov Moonbeam (dipshit-CA) just gave away a whole bunch of money to illegals. Guess who's going to pay for it? The state is already on the verge of bankruptcy, so I guess anything is a likely target for increased taxes. Like classic cars.

It's quite something that we allow this to happen. First we pay taxes to purchase the vehicle new. Then if resold, the new owner get to pay taxes on the residual value, which has already been taxed. Then, we pay a yearly tax to keep it registered which varies from state to state with regards to how the tax is formulated. Some states its a fixed fee, others based on the "value" of the car. Then as I am reading, in some states, you get to keep paying more taxes for the honor of owning "personal property".
The personal property thing is alive and well for michigan business owners. I get to pay a yearly sum for the honor of investing in my business with new equipment. The write off is more than compensated by the continual checks to the state, year after year after year after year...... you get the point

The governmental mind is sure an inventive thing when it comes to finding new ways to extract money from the governed.
