This tragic shooting is both scary and incredibly sad. It's hard to imagine what the victim's families are going through right now. My thoughts and prayers are with them.
The FBI statistics on violent crime show that the actual number of murders in this country have been decreasing for quite some time, even as the population is increasing. That makes this type of mass killing even harder to comprehend. I don't know what we can do to completely stop this kind of insanity, but I know that a lot of the schools around here have a full time police officer on site and it's helped in a lot of ways besides just curbing the violence. I guess that's what its come to.

I cannot express the sorrow I feel and those people/children are all strangers to Me. I'm almost 63 years old and already have told My children and Grandchildren that I don't envy them and that I'm actually glad to be close to the end of My existense. Life is not sacred anymore. It has been cheapened by violent movies, video games and lack of proper upbringing that doesn't valus the word "respect" People get killed at movies,shops,stores,schools by idiots. ZThe colorado shooter said "he felt he was in a video game" The latest shooter takes His life. Take Your own....You don't need company. If it was possible, I'd volunteer time standing guard at a school...(veteran,licensed armed security) Where does this end ? 5 and 10 year olds are innocent babies and may God give their families the strength to go on. God Bless them all.

Argh... why did I weigh in over in the political forum on this one.

All my sympathy and prayers go out to all the people affected by this horrible tragedy.

And I guess I'm a "tree lovin' douche" because I don't want everyone armed to the teeth in my kids elementary school.

I'm one of those as well I guess but I wont venture ino that forum as I dont see a need for it.

I dont know what the answer is .. the guns were legally registered to the shooters mother who it is now reported was killed at his house and not the school. The .223 was found in the car not in the school and was not used as far as I know. Its not known at this time if the magazines were stock or the extended clips on the glock and sig. He had a miltary vest on they said. SO he could have had numerous regular magazines.

I thinks its incumbent upon the people in charge to look at things and see how they can be improved regardless of the inconveinence to anyone. To sit and do nothing is irresponsible. Looking at the facts and making conclusions and changes if need be are the only responsible thing to be done. Facts can be weighed and responsible decisions can be made.
Hiding behind the 2nd amendment is not working to well when it comes to these types of atrocities but thats what people have been doing.
Thats all I have to say about that and yes I own guns.

As a father of two awesome boys I cant even imagine the pain these families are encountering!I couldnt wait to get home and hug my little guy of 6.Same age of some of the little angels that left us tragically today.Doesnt make any sense to harm harmless kids!!!Wish I could say or do something to help these families along.I cannot even find words to describe the sorrow I feel for the families and the community!

As the father of 2 boys (6 & 8 years) I can't even begin to imagine the soul shattering pain those families must be enduring right now. There are going to be a lot of questions, speculation and accusations made over the next while, none of which will be of much comfort to those involved. Through it all I hope the children especially are NOT FORGOTTEN.

This is what makes me sick, you have all of these deaths because of one idiot and the asshole politicians are already looking at the gun laws AGAIN. They have got to be the stupid, when they banned guns in Great Britain crime went up "don't quote me" 400%. Gun bans only effect the law abiding citizens not the criminals. My heart goes out to the families.

i think high schools are required to have a Police Officer on campus. there called SRO's (school resource officers) every school ive been too theres been one. but putting them in elementary schools might be a good idea.

I used to think that when they started putting metal detectors in school, that they were going too far. When i was going to school the worst that was brought in was a switchblade. Now with all these shootings in public buildings, it looks like the schools,malls,and every other place of business is going to have to hire their own armed security from open to close. Those families are going thru a horrific ordeal and i cannot begin to fathom the sense of loss, pain, and grief they are going thru. They will have many questions that will go unanswered for nobody will be able to provide that. We just had 2 girls (ages 8 &10 i think) that were abducted back in july and their bodies were found just last week and the FBI have no suspects at this time. This kind of sick, demented occurance is happening more and more everyday. I'm not going to bring in gun control, but i think some of the laws they had in the old west would be appropriate right about now. My prayers go out to all families that face this kind of crisis.

The horrific loss of such innocent lives through these selfish actions will NEVER be understood. The tragedy of this will affect those involved and nearby long past today, I continue to pray for those left behind, this will be a long hard battle for you. I pray that God will hold you tight and protect you within his everlasting love. There is no greater loss than that of the most innocent persons on this planet, our kids. They fall victim to the impurities and horrific sins of our society without sinning themselves.
I've been saddened by the media's misuse (in my opinion) of their influential power. Topics like these are plastered over every media hub and communication avenue know to exist at what cost? We are all concerned citizens and want to be informed but sometimes these stories become over reported and unfortunatly used as political agendas. Only the negative and tragic stories are reported. Shouldn't there be more stories about the kids or citizens that perform acts of kindness, bravery, selflessness, or maybe just the local baseball team that just won their state victory? I'm sure there are more parents out there that would like to hear stories of their kids that excelled in academics, sports, or just plain model citizenship than the propaganda that's out there today. As its been stated on a few replies here this negative over reporting of these tragedies will only give publicity and credit to those performing the horrific act. If they would start reporting on the positive sides of stories and some of the above mentioned topics then the spotlight would be taken off of these sick and twisted individuals and maybe, just maybe, they would find other ways to attempt to obtain their fame. I just hope I'm not contributing to their popularity by writing anything about them here.
It's sad how the media and politicians are quick to believe that stricter gun control or bans will reduce or even eliminate situations like these. What's not general public understanding usually is that the mathmatical studies performed found that in a shooting where a legally armed citizen was present and took it upon themselves to stop the shooter, the fatality rate of innocent victims remained around 2.3 while in the same type of shootings where there was no acting citizen and the shooter was allowed to continue until the authorities were able to mobilize and secure the situation the average fatality rate is around 14. Time is critical in these situations (obviously) and a law abiding citizen could be the difference between us or our kids being alive after a terrible act or not. These fact won't be reported by the mainstream media and are even shunned by the general population of our country due to the single sided information that is regularly fed to us.
I'm sorry if this turned into a political rant, I didn't mean it to be, just sad and confused like many of you out there and needed a place to vent.
Once again, I pray for those suffering and continue to do so because of these senseless acts and pray that God receive the innocent victims into his arms and hold them there until their loved ones join them. God Bless!
