H vs X Pipe ?

This question has probably been asked before.
On a 550 - 600hp street & strip car would there be any noticeable gain running an X pipe over an H pipe?
I have neither right now, running 3" head pipes.
Thoughts?

There has been lots of these, just asking did you do a search before you posted? X you get a bit more power but it depends on what sound you want, deeper tone h , x gives you a mello tone
 
X-pipe gives you more power then H-pipe because of the scavenging that is created in the X-pipe, in my 65 440 Satellite, it sounds Killer ! im running TTi Headers with 3" to the Axel with Flowmasters and it sounds Pist Off !!

I haven't read much into it, just wanted some input from some of you that are/have run either one. From the link hawkeye posted, i think the H pipe would be the way for me to go.
 
Here's what I found, for what it's worth. My application is not quite the same as yours so that should be a definite factor. I was looking for a system for my 74 Charger SE with about 400 HP which I primarily use to drive to work or cruise around. I talked to both Mancini Racing and Chicago Connection about it. Both talked me into a TTI system with Dynamax Super Turbo mufflers, but I still had questions about headers and cross overs. Mancini Racing and Chicago Connection both had the same opinion on these. I was given a brand new set of Hedman headers when I purchased my car and they said don't bother. The headers will be louder and not much of a gain at all for my application, so of little to no value over the stock HP manifolds. As for the cross over, even with the mufflers already picked out, it just boiled down to what sound I wanted and how I was going to be driving. The X pipes were louder and higher pitched, like more of an exotic car, and are more beneficial in the higher RPM range. The H pipe gives more of the deep throaty muscle car sound and is better for the lower RPM range. Based on that and my intended use of the car, I ended up with the H pipe and am very happy with it. I don't believe there really is a right answer here, just depends on your preference and intended use.
 
I guess I'm the loser as my car is only pissed off.

If there is any difference I would be surprised if it was more than a tenth. Pure speculation however.

You got that right buddy! Basically if you're not racing who cares. I have seen dyno tests showing both as winners but you're only talking like 5 HP.
 
Heck....I just drop the ENTIRE exhaust system at the header collector and go racing...I dont care about the "sound" with the exhaust system installed..LOL
 
Many say the X-pipe sounds different but to me it sounds about the same on my car and my friends. I went with the X-pipe since I knew I would race through the full exh system and they say the X makes more power but I never tried and compared them. Ron

Another vote for H-pipe.

Edit: We did a 3 inch pipe all the way back with Thrush bullets just behind the tips. I think the sound I fantastic!

...i just can't believe that a 6 inch piece of pipe can make any power.
think about it,the exhaust can not get out any faster.

Best answer in my opinion. High RPM's long running go with x pipe.
