hard starting race car

I have a 500 stroker bracket car,727,4500 stall,etc...the car has a MSD 7AL 3,start button and ign switch, 2 optima batterys in the trunk,36degrees of timing, locked out,1000cfmcarb, 11.5-1compression,all the wiring has been gutted and rewired for racing only.Starting the car cold is usualy pretty good a couple of times, but once it warms up and it gets hot it is very hard to start, almost like the batteries are low or dead(I Recharge between rounds)The charge is good and I am puzzled , has any one have any suggestion for me to try in the off season???Any help is good ,It reallysucks when you are in the staging lanes and your mopar won't start!!!

2 things to check make sure you have a good ground to the motor and check how many volts you are getting when you crank the motor check that at the starter it should be about 10 or better when cranking. I just had a bickel pro stock truck with this problem had 4 volts at the starter when it was cranking it was the main cable put a new one in and it spun like there were no spark plugs in it

keep in mind that the meizere is also bigger.

we had one and had nothing but trouble with it, broke off some ring gear teeth. But sounds like SSR has had better luck.

You dont NEED a starter like that, we just have an msd one. Id get rid of the start retard on startup, never works right and like said make sure you have the correct timing. A big gauge wire to the starter. And good connections everywhere.

Or just switch to 16volt and solve all of your problems :) lol

I know alot people that use start retards and NEVER had a problem, seems it's you that has a problem.****,I use the chrysler mini withouy any issues.:eusa_boohoo:But I'm SURE you know better than that little company called MSD:thefinger::icon_rabbit::icon_fU::laughing3::icon_pai::pottytrain2::eusa_wall::banghead::tantrum::blahblah::blahblah::blahblah:

No he's got a problem with Meziere not MSD.
I guess it's Meziere's fault not his.
I like the cranking power of the Meziere far better than anything out there.
ARC my engine builder who replied turned me on to the Meziere when we rebuilt the 588.

Didn't say Meizere was a bad unit, just it did not work well for us. MSD has been very reliable for us at about a $140 bucks cheaper. A lot of guys just run Mopar V-6 starters and reconditioned parts store starters with good luck.

Starter wire is big and I rewired the whole sysytem with lots of good clean grounds!!, If it's timing how come it starts o.k cold ?? Timing is affected by heat??

put down the pipe my man.

MSD is an awesome brand , do you honestly think a start retard is even necessary in this case? No. They are more hassle then they are worth. Thats all im saying... there is a problem elsewhere.

Of course Casey,I can't argue with a "KNOW IT ALL" with 1100 hp.iF you can't get something to work, than it's more hassel,,,,,,,,,to read the directions:eusa_boohoo:

EVERYTHING gets tighter when it warms up. when its you cold theres no issue.
did you check your timing yet?
thats the last thing to check then its time for a new starter or a new battery.

It is sounding more and more like the starter. When the armature gets a bad spot in it, it will start OK cold but after the motor and the starter warm up the starter will drag when it hits the bad spot and draw the amps way down. You can remove the starter and have it tested at most auto part stores.

take two minutes and check the volts at the starter when you crank it then you will n if the starter is bad or it is a voltage problem

Today is friday and this afternoon is race car day , the barracuda is off to the paint shop , GTX is coming off the hoist and the race car is going up!, So I am going to check the timming , mke sure the batteries are fully charged and check cranking voltage at the starter....When I said all the wirring was new , the only wire I didn't change was the battery positive to the starter!!! So I have my work cut out ..After I figure this little issue out is it good to back off the valves for storage for 2.5 months??

First thing i would try is the battery up front with short cables. If theres still a problem at least cables are ruled out. My moneys on starter also. Been down this road.
