Have you ever looked for a part that is right in front of your face!

My friend lost his keys to his 73 Duster... Called and asked if I could replace his key cylinder... Sure be right over... Got er done... fast forward He goes over seas, leaves the car with me for storage. 5 years goes by, he calls and says he come home for 2 weeks and wants to drive the Duster when he back. Asks if t I can prep the car so he can drive it.Go to change oil, and do prep work, go to change the air filter, and what do I find .... wait for it.... his keys from years ago laying on the intake under the air cleaner !!! He went to check the oil and set the keys on the intake !!

Had some work done on the Jeep Cherokee by the mechanic around the corner. When I went to pick up the vehicle, he could not find the keys. I had spare keys, so not a problem. Six months to a year later he found them, but I forget where they had been all that time.

There is a black hole in my garage... that's how i explain it. Only way to explain my dash ashtray going missing as well as other parts i had...

If I lay anything down on my desk, the garage work bench, any counters around the house I can guarantee you my girlfriend is gonna move it, she doesn't like clutter, absolute neat freak... Hell if I get up in the middle of the night to go pee she'll make the bed.... Anyway, she also doesn't remember where she put it... Soooo...

All I can say is don’t ask my wife please... I get ticked off when I can’t find my stuff.. I could tattoo it to my noggin and still forget... I got forgetful sometime around... 35...

I do have to say this, no matter where it is, it will ALWAYS be in the last place you look...

Some have more organizational skills than others...my dad could always tell you where some tool I needed was in his shop, drawer, shelf, etc. I've tried repeatedly to get my shop squared away and still always looks like ****. Wrenches btw sizes, metric, etc. end up mixed up so I fumble thru my tool boxes and hangers I made...I really should give it up and at my age I'll never acquire the talent...nobody's fault but mine...and my dad would get peeved if ya didn't return his tools to theee exact place he had it...lol.

I have a friend who turned wrenches for a living for a lot of years, and he's very OCD about his tool box even now. Everything is in immaculate shape, tool box waxed and polished with a cover, and tools are so organized, almost a work of art!

Me not so much, my tools are organized in drawers, metric wrenches, standard wrenches, allen keys, blade screw drivers, pry bars etc...I can tell you in what drawer a tool can be found but other that it's just toss them in.

My brother was a mechanic at a couple dealers when he was younger, and he's the same way. I suppose being organized in that environment forces one to be so as they would get so much time to complete a job or lose.

It happens more time than what I will ever admit. I've learnt to internalise the search and not involve others as the number of times it happens would give my wife an excuse to institutionalise ME LOL :)

I'm pretty decent keeping up with tools until a few years ago. Used to work on something and then put everything away at the end of the day finished or not but not anymore. I'm pretty good with keys too but if I laid them on the table or the countertop, the wife would lay something on top of them but one problem now that she's no longer around is if I close up the shop, bingo, my keys are still hanging on the wall by my laptop and most times the house is locked up too. There's now a spare key hidden outside lol. Right now I have a lost high powered (for it's size) LED flashlight that's somewhere in the house.....I think. It's black and blends in with too much stuff in the shop so it went into the house and the aluminum one came out to the shop where it promptly got lost! :( but found it the other day.....and right in plain sight. There's also been a couple dozen times looking for my reading glasses and was already wearing them.

While in the military, when I would come home; keys, wallet, and everything in my pockets went into my hat and put on the kitchen counter. All I had to do was get dressed in the morning and all of my crap was in the hat, no looking for it at 0 dark 30...

speaking of losing crap, has anyone ever ben under the hood, drop a bolt, hear plink, dink, clunk. cool it the floor! next time you hear plink, dink............ oh ****! it went into THE BLACK HOLE UNDER THE HOOD!!!!!!!!!!

So I have been looking for my 71 Charger R/T hood louver everywhere in my garage, I know that I had it the other day, and it seems to have vanished into thin air,so tonight, I am six beers in, and I notice that it is sitting on the trunk lid of the car that's on the lift! Lol,the blind leading the blind!View attachment 988365
I had used my 1/2 inch wrench to take bat terminals lose and was finished with my work so I could not find it to tighten the post back up. Looked for about one hour. Was a little upset so decided to have a beer. On top of the six pack was, you guessed it, the wrench.

My older brother walked around the house looking for his red shirt, asking everyone if they knew where it was.
He was wearing it. We just let him keep looking for it.
