Getting ready to install a 440 in a 69 satallite, I understand it is difficult to install headers when in car, Could I bolt headers on before installing or is that going to make it more difficult ? Have not bought them yet. What brand fits the best without a lot of clearance issues?

Just lay them in the engine compartment and hold them out of the way with a chunk of wire or whatever you have lying around. then set the engine down in place while watching things and bring the headers up to the engine.

I used Hedman 78030 headers and they fit a B body with 440 great with no clearance issues.

The instructions have you jack up the engine an inch or two off the mounts and put the drivers side in from the top and passenger side in from the bottom.

Very little drama and they work well even with studs in the heads!

Yep, just take your time...you don't want your brand new headers having a bunch of installation battle-wounds on them. Either way these guys said to install them will work just fine. I usually put them in after I have the engine in the hole, but still on the crane.

Thanks going with the headmans.

I just dropped a 440 in '68 b body (with p/s) last night. Much to my surprise, the mini starter was somewhat problematic. These were Hedman headers and I found that the stock starter fit better. Who'da thunk.
