Sounds like a too lean mixture on those cylinders. What intake manifold and carb are you using? What cam? And what cylinder numbers were glowing red hot? Driver side front to rear is 1-3-5-7, while passenger side is 2-4-6-8. Is this a 440? The more info you can provide, the better we can help.

im using an wieland 8009 intake with an holley 850 dp...lunati 60303 cam edel rpm heads....drivers side 3 and 5 and number 8 on the pasenger side glows and yes its a 440 bored 30 over...just found out that the return line was blocked could this have caused it.....thanks

Not un-common when breaking in a cam. Header companies say not to use thier coated headers when breaking in a cam.

Ignition timing. Little to no advance or even retarded and the charge is burning in the pipes. Put some advance in it and it'll be fine.

its not coated..there hedman headers ...and ill try bumping the timmng

Perfectly normal. Don't go all crisis about the cam bein degreed in. That crap won't cause anything. It's simply a new engine that's out of tune. Nothing more. Did you let the cam break in? If not, bust it back off and break the cam in good, ignore the headers. After cam break in, then you can fine tune it. Most likely cause is either ratarded timing and or a lean carburetor mixture. Nuthin to it.

thats what my mechanic said and we did run the cam in for 15 minutes....ill play with timing and carb and get back thanks

Good. Cam break in is real important. That's why I always recommend to finish everything like you were gonna drive it down the road. You'll be able to keep it runnin. Keep us posted.....some video would be cool.

Headers glow. (Hell, brake discs glow under extreme working conditions)

Those exhaust temps are typically anywhere from 1100 to 1300 degrees. That is HOT.
The "middle" ports will reflect a higher temp than the outer ports if the ports are close.
Now, if you think your temps are hotter, then you DO have a problem.
I suggest you use a infrared heat temp monitor (gun). Pick it up at harbor freight.
Engine Dyno tests have a sensor (termocouuple) that monitors these temps. Dno testing is a good thing.

I'll bet that motor is cool to look at in the dark, what with the glowing headers and all. Wish mine would do that! Lol

Engines usually run hot on break in. Mine personally would keep boiling the rad over and i had to shut it down. I just kept running it in for 10-15 minutes and it eventually ran cooler. Now after being broken in it stays at less than 180 when driving. I'm sure your issue will resolve itself.

Uneven fuel distribution in the intake. Most carbed engines have it. A fuel injector for each cylinder with the appropriate electronic control will cure it.

Another thing is do i need to change the oil after cam break in or do i change it after 500 miles?
