First year 440 out of a New Yorker in my '64 Fury. I have the stock exhaust manifolds but am considering headers. We are talking at least 9 months out so I am in the planning stages now. Are there any mass market headers that will fit without modifying the tubes. I am not against getting a mini starter if required. I see the cheap Hedman's but I also see used sets that seem to be flattened on some of the tubes. Any info is appreciated.

If you want an improvement over the stock 64 manifolds without using tube headers, you can use the higher rise HP manifolds from the 67 to 71 years. That's what I did on my 64 Fury. No fit or clearance issues. I used a TTI 2-1/2'' dual exhaust kit, and it fits and works well. Just give them the casting number from the HP manifolds, and they can fit the flanges to the pipes correctly.

The only problem with using the H/P manifolds is If you develop an exhaust leak on the pass. side is You cant get the manifold off with out pulling the eng. if a bolt breaks off! Also you can't use the heat riser! I'm fighting that problem on my 65 (pictured)! I suggest going the TTI header route! JMO

TTI are great as I use them and they fit great but are not cheap. I hear the guys using Dougs say they fit good and work good also. And I have also used the Hedman Elite 1-3/4 headers on my old 440 and they worked fine and were cheaper then most any other headers, Good luck which ever you choose. Ron

I went from TTIs to Dougs. Better plug access. Whatever you use, make sure to get new motor mounts to maintain clearance to the shock tower on passenger side and steering components. Quality wise, both are top notch...

Doug's 2" on my 64 fit but needed some massaging to clear steering linkage and passenger tbar. Plug access is good with angled plugs on my alum heads. I'd probably go with 1 3/4" if I could do it over.

Dougs 1 3/4” needed a lot of massaging for me on my 64. And by massaging I mean torches and a big *** hammer. Next set I’m going TTi for sure.

I just installed 2 inch primary TTI's in my 65 Belvedere 440 Auto. Easy install, good fitment. However... toughest Plug change I ever had with any RB headers, and also requires good heat shields over some off the plug boots. Very challenging on passenger side.
Just my 2c.

I used Headman's on the 440 build for my '64 Polara. Needed some minor dimples here and there but overall fit is good and plug access is decent with stock heads. Dimpling headers does not effect performance, just looks. Bought them off E-bay brand new still in the original box. Total cost was about 1/4 what TTI's run.
