Heddman Elite Install?

Has anyone ever installed a set of Heddman Elite Headers on a 440 motor with Aluminum Stealth Heads from 440 Source in a 68-69 Bbody?

I guess my main question is...is it at all possible to still get those into position once the motor is already in the car or is it a case of having to lay them on the inner fenders while the motor is being lowered into the engine compartment and then having multiple helpers guide them into the right place simultaneously?

The car is a 69 Road Runner with a stock k-frame, factory sway bar, a 727AT and power steering.

The car is almost done after a long restoration and I'm ready to drop the motor in but I didn't want to do that and then find out that I now couldn't get the headers in place. Everything "looks" like it's gonna work but I'd prefer to not have to do the job twice if I can avoid it. Just lemme know if there's a particular order I have to follow or not. Thanks!

stock suspension you will have to lay them on the inner fenders while lowering motor in or lift the motor on each side once it is in then slide headers up from underneath, if you have aftermarket k member like a magnumforce, you can slide them up from underneath.

headers on a b body with a 400 is a really crappy job.

I put Hedman elites on my 440 but I did not have power steering, we had no trouble getting them in but I did have to cut into my bell housing on the right side to make them fit right, I also had to return my MSD mini starter because the solenoid was more of an issue than the stock starter.

Thanks for the input guys. Yeah I kinda figured it was gonna be too tight to snake them up there once the motor was in but you never know til you ask.

I did notice that space issue for the starter when I was test fitting everything awhile ago. If I remember right a mini starter was too wide for the one tube to clear and a factory V8 piece was too long and jammed into a different tube at the front. A friend who rebuilds starters solved the problem by combining an older 6 cylinder housing with V8 internals. I forget which years the parts came from but just as he thought the thing fits perfectly in the space and worked like a charm on the engine break-in stand.

I'll have to ask him what parts he used and post some side-by-side pictures of that starter when I get a chance. I'm sure that would help out some people with the same problem.

No answers on your headers, but a little help otherwise. Get rid of that orange oil filter and get you a Wix or Napa Gold. Those orange filters are completely junk, just do a search.

Thanks for the help again. I had an HP1 filter sitting here when i did the engine break-in so I figured I'd use it for that. Kinda hated to see all that $$$$$ oil go into the drain pan but oh well. Hope Joe Gibbs and Brad Penn appreciated my business. Jeesh!!!

Not sure how they'll work with my motor but those headers(hedders) are almost too nice to put on a car. They're like a work of art. I bought a crusty old set of no-name headers from a friend just to do the break-in cuz I didn't wanna ruin these before they got in the car. Ha ha.

I'll be using ultra seal gaskets with plenty of orange hi-temp rtv and stage 8 fasteners. This is the same combo I used before and always with no problems so I hope the streak will continue.

If all goes right I'm hoping to have some extra helpers come over this weekend to make this happen. Guess we'll see how it all works out. Thanks again for all the helpful tips.
