Hello, I'm new here and recently picked up a 1985 Chrysler Fifth Avenue.

Welcome from Alabama, the late 70's and 80's Mopars are coming on strong. Pictures please.

Welcome to FBBO from Ontario. Enjoy your '85 5th Ave. We had an '87, and it was one of the best cars we owned. The car was comfortable to drive, and had a lot of power conveniences. I never liked the Lean Burn system that Chrysler put on the 318, as sometimes the computer could act up. On our 5th. Ave., I replaced all the smog crap with a pickup truck distributor and carb that did not have the smog setup. A local junk yard had a couple of police Diplomats, and I obtained the rear sway bar, and higher MPH certified speedometer for installation in my 5th. I never liked the ornate wire wheel discs, so I installed a set of police wheels with red circle hub caps.

Welcome from Missouri!!
I remember when I started working at Chrysler in 86 in the fenton Missouri plant. They were building Fifth Avenue, diplomats and fury's. One day while watching the workers on the line a women asked the man working next to her what kind of cars were they building. The guy said as fast as they keep coming by, I think they're race cars. New hires came and went.

Welcome from Minnesnowta. I've had a number of them over the years. Best one had 18,000 miles on it when I got it. Literally too nice to drive around for any day to day use.

Last one I bought 4 years ago and it's been a good one. Only problems I had were with the automatic climate control. I finally gave up and hooked up a cable for the flapper door that controls heat. Looking at another one in Nebraska right now.

Enjoy the site and your new car!

There actually is a "For M bodies only" site (OK for F/M/J...).

But FBBO and FABO are way more active.

The 86 5th Ave I bought for a donor car ran great as late as 2015.
I don't have enough leg room in M body cars, though and the interior and vinyl top was trashed.
I bought it for the disk brakes and roller cam 318 (and LU trans), and found a whole lot of other parts I could possibly use.

Apparently they sold a LOT of M body 5th Avenues as I still see them occasionally at U pull yards.
I wonder what the actual production number was.

...oh yeah...let's see it.

Welcome from NY.
I had 3 M bodies and really liked them.
Smooth, quiet and reliable.
Easy to work on and the few parts you needed (usually just brakes or a muffler) were cheap.

If I had the opportunity I'd like to get a nice one and put a magnum engine in it.

Chrysler was selling so many M bodies that at one point they literally couldn't build enough, and contracted American Motors (this was before Chrysler bought AMC) to help manufacture them at American Motors' Kenosha assembly plant.

Welcome! I had one J body, an ‘81 Mirada… I’ll stick to the longitudinal torsion bars. :D

I've never heard that.

They sold a boatload of Dip and GF cop cars, too.
