Help identifying a 1968 B body

Here we go again... some dumbass with a Mopar he doesn't know diddly squat about, or a scammer, claiming all sorts of rarity and looking for double what the car is really worth.. I've been through this countless times over the years... read what the guys have posted here, it's your best bet for accuracy... hey, you can pay whatever you want, that's your business, as long as you know what your getting, a plain-Jane run-of-the-mill car...
Agree 100% .. I smell a rat. Maybe he is passing along the story that he got when he bought it. Even if true, I can't see that kind of money...............................MO

Make a reasonable offer leave a contact # or email and walk away. When he can't sell it because he believes it is something it is NOT. He might call you.
Glad you were smart enough to do some questioning and research.
Good luck,Joey

My mistake guys,I thought g code was 318 in 68,I thought f was 273.Oh well, good thing I was born gorgeous instead of smart!! lol.He is about 2.5 to3 times too high in my mind

Some people are unable to face reality. The seller in this case is one of those people!
It's not a GTX! Period! And in my opinion the car is not worth 14K based on the description you gave us.

There is a sucker born everyday. This guy was starting the work for someone else and that person lost interest in it. If the owner is who he claims it is I could see the believing the story of it being a rare car. The family has quite a lot of money and is known world wide for the product they make. My guess is the story is just being passes along in hopes of someone buying it. It is sad this happens. I personally know a guy that tried to steal a vin tag to a rare Camaro to slap on a plain Jane model. Thanks to everyone for your input. I have to say it was an interesting adventure and excellent learning experience for me. My search shall continue!

If you're going to spend 14k on a somewhat rusty car (like there's any other kind) buy a true RoadRunner or GTX. When you're done dumping more money into it than it's worth, the difference will be less on a car with a pedigree.

Lest you think I'm being sarcastic (I'm not) it will cost you nearly every bit as much to resurrect a Satellite or Belvedere as it will a RoadRunner or GTX. In the end, the latter two will be worth 30% more.

I thought about that but he seems like he may be a hot head. I'm pretty confident he believes his story and since I am new to the Mopar world I would not be able to persuade him to think otherwise. I really could not make a reasonable offer with having to replace the floor without really insulting him. If I had the ability to tackle that job it would be a different story.

If he's "a Mopar guy", then you explaining the VIN would definitely set him off, as you proved him wrong! Heck show him this thread! Upward and onward, keep up the search. You can find good cars for that kind of money. Check the for sale section here. You may see something you like.

I whole heartily believe that. If it had been some rare combination then it may have been worth saving at that price. I believe all cars are worth saving just some are worth more than others. Thanks.

I don't think he is. He runs a brake shop here and you see old muscle cars for sale there from time to time. Here is a funny story. When I first went to look at it he was bragging about how well the car ran and it would set and do burnouts all day long. He tried to do a burnout and the car simply over powered the front brakes and he came very close to driving the door into his sign. He actually tried to do this twice and after the second attempt I walked up and shut the door to keep him from damaging it. I did chuckle inside.

Sounds like a STAY AWAY car deal.

Don't you just love the BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH of these BS Mopar illiterate sellers.

I just sold a 1969 340 engine to guy that was going to put it in a 1973 Duster and he told me his next Mopar is going to be a Dodge Challenger. I asked him what year 1970? 1971? He said 1969. I had to hold it back as I just got making a deal with him, didn't want offend my new customer lol.

its worth closer to 1400.......... like maybe 1400......maybe

If you want a real 69 GTX a/c car minus the motor and trans, but with a solid floor-

There's one down here that's NOT selling for 5K.

Been on CL for several months at that price.

Green/green and had a vinyl top which caused the roof to rust through and the roof to quarter area.

Other than that it looks solid, unmolested and pert near complete.

Part of the "Spring Hill" group of cars.

For posterity purposes here are a few pics of the car. Thanks again for everyone's help and responses. You have a great community here.

MrBug, I would steer clear of this, way clear.

Based on everything you stated, this guy has no clue what he is talking about, is lying through his teeth, and looking to scam someone.

Also, with all those lies he is spewing you have no idea what else is wrong with this car. Don't get scammed.

At 14K you might be able to find a running RR that you can work on. I have come across a few. I am looking for a 68/69 RR and been watching pricing for a while and 14K is about 10-12K over what this car is worth.

If you found a real RR or GTX this might make a decent parts car as the body, grill, chrome look decent, but this guy will never sell it for that.

Keep looking and the right car will come up. I am, and it will.

By the way, I love the Road Runner sticker (I doesn't even look like a real decal) that he slapped on the trunk and quarters while he's claiming it's a GTX. A$$ hat!

By the way, if you are looking for a 68/69 RR or GTX, let me know as I am looking for myself and search in the southeast daily to see what pops up, and if something comes up that I am not interested in but would fit what you are looking for I don't mind passing the information on to you.

I appreciate the offer. I did not set out to find a GTX or Roadrunner. This car just happened to be in town and I like the body style so the adventure began. Don't tell anyone but I really prefer the '71 Satellite/GTX/RR body style. I really kind of dig the wagon!

So we basically have a 1968 Belvedere claiming (by the seller) to be a GTX and has a Road Runner decal on it. LMAO That seller is a moron.
