Help me select an engine color

Thanks for all the feedback. My only hesitation with black is everything being so black you can’t see anything.

The owner before me painted it the engine bay black. I was half thinking about shooting it blue when I take out my existing 340.
That would be a good time to de-chevy the engine bay!

Problem is it will take a ton more work.

What about a this:

Mopar performance black air cleaner
Mopar performance black valve covers
Black RPM intake
Aluminum heads
Gunmetal gray block and water pump
Gloss black front assembly

Ohh and I have an ugly AC compressor to deal with.

I think painting the firewall and inner fenders black is a Chevy thing. I never did like it unless the whole car was painted black. Jmo

So true, my god. 2/3 of the chevies that are in the car shows around here have; black engine bay, black engine, chrome damn near everything else. I like orange because it’s an eye catcher, makes it really stand out. And it’s stock!

Black is a good engine color, but to be different, in the past I used Ford Light Blue on several motors. Used black crinkle M/T valve covers or DC blue anodized covers. The two motors for my Satellite are Street Hemi Orange with chrome or Indy plain VC's.

Mopar? Engine bay MUST match the car color.

If I’m at a car show and I see a Mopar with a black engine bay, i shake my head and walk away. IMHO

Engine color? Have at it!!

Black, but satin black.
I don't like real shiney and the satin will let you see if there's a leak somewhere.

Engine bay body color with the block black!!!

I'm building a 440 that is going to drop into my 69 Coronet (pic below). I don't care about being stock. My original intent was to do something that was dark and sinister.

Here is what I have already:
Blue Coronet
Black engine bay
Black RPM Intake
Bare Aluminum Perf RPM Heads (can be painted)

Everything else I need to get still. I was thinking black Mopar Performance Valve covers and Air Cleaner, and maybe a black pulley set.

Anyone have ideas? Or even better, pics?

Very nice R/T! Gorgeous. Here is my color scheme I have planned for my 1970 Super Bee. The car will be charcoal grey, black interior, red bumble bee stripe, black spoiler. I like engine colors that I can see leaks easily. I decided to paint the engine red to match the bumble bee stripe. You could do red to play off of the red R/T badges. Just a thought.

On another note - I see so many forums where posters state "IMHO." Too many times their post is not to humble, but arrogant. It's your car, do what makes YOU happy.

If you are not going stock, I agree with the black. I think the gold Milodon stuff and the chrome and polished parts would look good on there. They do in the pictures in the second post!!

EDIT: And yeah,... I'm not a fan of the black engine compartment on Mopars either. To each their own, but I think it's what sets Mopars apart. Just my opinion though as I agree that everyone whould make their car how they like it.

No matter what color the engine bay, it’s hard to beat orange. Very subjective topic. Do what you want if you're keeping the car. Go original if you might get rid of it.

paint the engine bay, this is your only chance...... if the black is adhered well, clean it, sand it, mask off a few things and let 'er rip....... if you don't get 100% coverage in the hard to get areas, it's ok; the black will help you out

Does Phoenix have the hard to find Direct Connection Big Block Valve Covers?

I don't typically offer parts for sale (except for whatever happens to be in the personal stash at any given time). I just customize your metal and turn your vision into reality.

Despite a couple decades in the metal finishing industry and a lifetime being a Mopar lover, the only DC covers I've seen is the little four cylinder Rampage version in line right now. It's cool but is gonna need a lot of casting cleanup work. It will be silver and custom blue when I finish. No pics yet.

My opinion, for what it's worth and it is your car, but...paint the engine compartment body color ! You'll be happy you did it. Race engine blocks are usually black and that's cool, but what about painting the block an "as-cast" gray (semi-gloss metallic darker gray...). It's a neutral color and would add a little contrast under the hood. Looks good in my head anyway :)

Nice Coronet. For what you have going already I agree with most & to paint it black. If it were my car, while the engine is out I would paint the engine bay the correct blue to match the rest of your car. And then the engine orange, but I am partial to orange.
