All Hemi cars built before the end of December, or more likely Christmas, were badged HP2.

As I noted my tag had round rivets in it as well. Assume it was popped and put back on during exterior painting. I just found it interesting that Bleep Bleeps car doesn't appear to have been painted on the jams and thought that just maybe they were using round head rivets on the line in 65.
That's a possible line of thinking.. could you tell if it was painted under the tag? Wonder if they ran out of proper rivets around Christmas.. my Dad's Charger had a factory dash mount screw issue that another members car had, again around the turn of the new year

Well, it’s badged HP2 but still trying to find and validate the block assembly date.
The data tag SO is C1702131 Dec 17 ‘65.
You may find the block assembly date on the bottom side of the engine. Mine was located on the lower, left rear of the bock on the rear web.

What looks like VIN is actually MN signifying the engine plant. This decoded as an assembly date for 426 engine assembled on Dec 20th 1967, 12th engine of the day. (68 model year).

The engine casting date is near and partially behind the starter motor.

Most blocks in this time period were cast in 66 I believe. I’ve heard none were cast in 67. Mine was assembled 14 months after casting. Obviously not the original engine for my 66.

Ok that’s good news then. I found those numbers and it does say 66. Does the bottom casting translate to Dec 66? That’s the assembly month per fender tag

The assembly date on my original block is on the pad on front top.

Is that the same place you’re talking about on the front? Maybe each plant didn’t follow same process.

with that casting date its obviously not the original block ( not surprised ) for a Dec 1966 SBD
But at leasts its an original and not a late model over the counter MP block , SO that sgood , very good IMO

Assy date will be on the machined pad under the coil , like so

Mine is March 1st,
The 22nd engine assembled that day
My cars SBD is early April

Ok, Now. Ck near the oil pressure switch for a stamped number - For a 1968 model car application
Or along pass side oil pan , right behind the pass side motor mount. For a 1969 and later model car application

If there are numbers at either location. Its a 68 or newer engine
