Hemi auto or 440 six pack 4spd, which one?

What would you choose?

440 manual.

In five years time no new car will have a manual gearbox. Get one while you can.

Impress your friends with your amazing retro driving skills and coordination...

Never been a big fan of the hemi for the street. I'd take the 440 6-pack all day long.

Known too many guys who spent too much time under the hood tweaking Hemis. I'll take a 440-6 any day.

As for manual vs auto, to me if I wanted to work hard while driving, I would be a truck driver. Driving should be fun and relaxing, so I'm an auto guy. Yeah, I know shifting is fun when you're drive-dreaming about being a race car driver, but then that reality of sitting in traffic and upshifting and downshifting, and upshifting and downshifting, and upshifting and downshifting, for hours comes along and I'm glad I don't have to worry about that nonsense. :)

The two choices the OP gave, although both fun, are not what I would have chosen. Given a Hemi, I'd prefer a 4-speed and given a 440-6, i'd have chosen the 727. Why? The 6BBL setups work better when the engine is under constant load. The automatic transmission does that perfectly. The dual-quad Hemi likes to be wrung out on the starting line and side-stepping the clutch north of 4000 rpm can only be done with the manual transmission. :)

I'm biased....but hemi. 6bbl is very cool, but just a 440 with more tuning issues.

440-6 is nice but im taking the HEMI who wouldnt want an elephant in the engine compartment. Any mopar lover would want one.

I hate shifting these days. I'd take the automatic car, which would be every bit as quick as the four-speed car.

Who doesn't love banging their hand on the dash grabbing 3rd gear.

I put more of a bend in my shifter to prevent that - works a treat and looks stock. Oh, and NOT having a sloppy box helps!! :headbang:

Great post Ron...
Gee, I'd be happy with a 383 Automatic!
Or a 440 4-BBL
My 70 Bee is a 383 auto and I pulled the 383 (still have it) and now it's a Hemi
But heck...the Poll is the Poll...
I'll take a real Hemi car over any other Mopar product...
BUT..a factory Maxie is cool too
And the early ones were 3-speed manuals...LOL

give me the automatic hemi car considering in your case the 68' is a much lower production car remember 500 70' 6-pack bee's were put out and the fact I shift gears all day!:headbang:

I have all 3 cars. 1 hemi `69 hemi bee, 4 gear, 1 `69 hemi gtx, auto, and a `69.9 roadrunner, auto. the `69.5 was built to KILL a hemi thru the 1/4 mile. look back thru the info available, thx, patti

Hemi auto
Just like my 1970 Superbee...

(cant out-shift an automatic)

this man did..... 5906841-RONNIE_SOX_110164408.jpg

Seeing as neither has the engine i would go for the 70 super bee I have always loved the look of that one.

I would have to say the 440, raced a Hemi car with my 440 and spanked its butt, my buddy was always tuning it, adjusting the timing and carb. I stick with the 440. :hello2:
