hey this is my first car im rebuilding and luckily got a mopar. its a 74 satellite with a stock 318. looking to rebuild the motor and want some input.

planning on getting:
360 heads
650 cfm edelbrock carb
rpm air gap intake
and purple shaft cam .474/.474 lift 238 dur, 110 centerline

im new to doing all of this and wondering if that would be an acceptable set up

Welcome to the forum.Nothing wrong with a 318.I've seen small blocks kick some serious butt.

Welcome to FBBO, it's good to see you chose a Mopar as your 1st car... I assume your talking about a LA 318 engine with LA 360 heads, not a 92 or later Magnum engine... The LA 360 heads have a much larger combustion chamber than the LA 318 combustion chamber & will drop your compression ratio pretty severely, amongst other issues, there are better options, unless you install new higher compression ratio pistons, in the 318 block, it can hurt performance instead of help... They will fit, bolt right up, it's just not ideal with out doing some major mods to make them perform correctly... There is allot of performance threads here, check out some of the small block builds & parts used... There are several great books on building Small Block Mopars, the parts & machine work it takes, I would highly suggest you invest in a couple, also purchase a "Factory Service Manual" for your specific year, make & model of car..., You also can search the web or threads here for "Can you use 360 heads on a 318 Mopar" you will see a ton of people posting on that subject.... Good luck, I'm not saying you cant do it, you just need to do, allot more than just put the 360 heads on a 318 short block to get good performance out of the combo....

Welcome pal! I'm still working on getting my first Mopar! Enjoy!

Yes I am putting la 360 heads on in. I'm going to be changing pistons on it when I do the rebuild since I'm tearing it down to the block and going through it all. Do you have any input on what would be a good piston to go with/ what compression ratio?

Welcome aboard! Great folks here to help and advise.. and please don't forget pictures! :)

That sounds like a good start setup, but like budnicks said youd probably want to invest in higher compression pistons if your putting 360 heads on. you also might want to look into ignition options for all that extra air and fuel. im putting a 750cfm eddy on mine but i also am ensuring i can get the right burn too. if you dont get good burn it will be doggy and youll get frustrated. just tidbits of thought. good luck and welcome. lets see some pics. ive noticed that alot of these guys love pics and want to see what they are talking about you working on.
