Anyone been on this stretch in the last few years? I drove it, but it's been over 10 years and not in late April. Darius and I plan to drive 50 (from California) to Utah to meet a Mopar Club and drive into MATSLV with them. Thinking of Lodging in either Austin or Ely. It will be midweek, and weather could still be iffy. Looking for planning advice.

Nope....never been there but it looks like a pedal to the metal type of road!

When I moved out to that F-ed up state back in the summer of 01, I drove it all the way across NV. There is a absolute reason why they have signs out there saying that "It's the loneliest road in the world"! They ain't jokin, there ain't squat out there, and pray to God that you don't break down either. Outside of that, it's a beautiful drive where at times you can put the HAMMER DOWN bigtime! Good Luck

Any cellular service? I carry a spare and learned last year to carry paper maps.

Nothing for cell.. Im from Canada so I had a different provider.. your case may be different.. a paper map is a good thing to have.. we carried one and used it..

Dennis we took Hwy 50 back from Reno in the Cuda Convertible. Awesome drive. A lot of cops around Austin and Eureka so go slow through those towns otherwise we zinged right along.

Best advice yet. I'll keep the Valentine on as always. Got any pictures?

Used to drive that stretch from Tahoe to Fallon. Once you get past Fallon it is desolate. Stopped by Salt Wells Villa a few times, It was NOT lonely.

Went to the NHRA race in April a while back and hit lots of snow from Goldfeild all the way up to Shurtz. Be prepared..

Will watch the forecast, but don't want to buy chains for the 295's. When in April? Early I hope.
I haven't chained anything up since the school bus in 1976.

Fuzzy memory on the date but whenever they have the drags at The Strip. Tonopah is at like 7000ft. Was driving my 85 Dodge van and had to chain up and down a few times. Good thing it was setup with camping gear and such but never needed. Man I miss Stevie Ray Van, but thats another story.

US Hwy 6, which begins in Bishop, Ca and runs east through Tonopah and eventually on into Ely is even lonelier than US 50.

Almost ran out of gas on that one. Barely made it to 395. Thanks.

Chains won't fit on my car! At least it will be late April, closer to warmer times.

Dennis, shoot me a PM. I have a card for a real nice motel in Ely.
