I need to change the oil in my sure grip due to chatter that won't go away.

Since you can't open it up, how do you remove the oil without taking the rear end out? I'm assuming some kind of syringe and suck it out?

For right now I just want to change the oil and get the right additive in there. If it doesn't fix the chatter I will then pull the rear end out and open it up.

You can use a vacuum pump - looks a little like a grease gun....with a long clear hose. Go through the filler bung and suck that oil out. If you suspect any debris, pulling the pumpkin is your best option.

You can use something like this one. Auto parts store, Walmart ect. Then you can use it to pump the new oil in...

That's what I love about FBBO. You ask the question you don't know the answer to - experts arrive and save the day. Have for me a number of times - never seems to fail. I had the same question. Now I have the answer. Thx guys!

Don't forget to pump in the Sure Grip friction modifier additive.

huh-huh you said bung

I'm going to pump it because I tried to add the additive in while it was full. Yeah, that didn't go so well. Didn't realize the oil was up to the plug.

Live and learn. My gut is that I will need to take the entire rear end out and take it up to Randy's Ring and Pinion. The previous owner seemed to think that the wheel chirp was normal operation for a sure grip. Either he was trying to hide an issue from a newb or he really thought is was fine and drove it like that for a while. My saving grace might be that he didn't drive the car much after it was rebuilt.

You can just loosen the pig and let most of it drain out the gap, no need to pull it out, you'd only have about 8 oz left of the old lube.
Not a problem unless you had blown a rear end up, or filled the lube with metal shavings.

The "friction" additive is really needed with the clutch style limited slip diff's. You'd didn't mention which axle you have. Suck a little lube out, as recall the additive only about 8 OZ. Shouldn't be a problem.
