How many of you drive a 10 second street car

My '79 Chrysler 300, on a good day, might do the 1/8th mile in 11.02 seconds

I haven't had it to the track yet with the new combination but am really hoping to run a 9.99 when I get it tuned. I am really close to Mike Gaines build with a few differences. I've got a 526" instead of his 505" and 54 cfm more flow with my trick flows over his Indy's but I'm running a little less compression. It will be interesting to see how things play out. My old 496" ran 10.90's with stage 6's and a smaller hydraulic flat tappet and I drove it everywhere. Five hour drives to out of state shows were the norm. I don't plan on changing that with the new motor either.

My current streetbeast, 68 RR I don't think could do 10's
it's not set up that way, "more of a drag car, in search of a corner"
might run mid 11's, if it could hook, I don't know, it serves it's purpose now
BUT;
my former silver 68 RR could do best of 9.77 @ 135 N/A
& w-300 shot of N20 8.58 @ 156 best 100* day Test & tune
I drove some 12k miles on the street around Sacramento Co.
before I sold it (2007), it'd run 9.90's @ 130+ consistently
(from what I understand, it still does too)
479ci/383 full roller, mildly ported RPM alum heads, TF 3800 stall-4200 flash
on 315 drag radials & CalTracs, Flowmasters Delta 50 mufflers & tail pipes
{I think the camshafts, cylinder-heads, tires & shocks tech. are all far better today too}
with 3.73:1 - I also had 3.91:1, 4,10:1 & 4.30:1 gears
depending on what combo at the time, tried them all
it miled per hour better with the 3.73:1,
but 60ft better with the 4.30:1
about a 2 tenths & a 1/2 different, in best et's, N/A no matter the gears
especially on juice, it's more dependent on weather, track conditions,
prep or the heat/sun cooked tracks etc.
but the mileage with the 4.30:1 sucked ***,
16 gallon cell, 320 gal. per.hr. bypass fuel system,
maybe go 120 miles on a good day, without running out of fuel
{I liked to use good fuel, but it'd run relatively good on 91 oct. swill we have out here too,
so I could still stop in at gas stations & fill up, just wasn't ideal, carried oct. boosters too
}
3.73:1 wasn't much better, but it could do freeway speeds
"without screaming it to the moon all day"

I think I can do a bit better today, If I had the budget & to want to do it...

when I was much younger I had many cars that were 10 sec.
or better driven on the street regularly,
even cruised them downtown Walnut Creek, fri. & sat. nights
we all drove our cars to the track...

I had a brand x car that'd run 7's on juice, drove on the street
every so often, not like it was my daily driver, a bit radical for that ****
it could idle along & slip the converter, but it had tags & insurance, slicks
people would ask about my slicks on the street all the time
I'd just say "those are my street tires"

I wish I could've drove my Altered on the street

Back in the day, 30-40 years ago
a bunch of me & my buds would drive our racecars on the street,
before they were lettered up etc.
we'd take them out to Encino Grande, Safeway Parking lot
a local gearhead hangout back then, in Concord area,
get a little fishing action, after the fri. & sat. cruise nights...

It's not a new thing,
many people have been doing it for a long, long time...

I mostly grew out of that, started building cars for the track only
I had too much to lose etc.
or build for a specific type of purpose, not always straight line stuff...

Nice setup Budnicks
Another reason for NO2...IMO, with zero personal experience...
Nitrous only affects the motor when you use it. Just about EVERY other performance enhancement ALWAYS affects the motor. Now turbos and superchargers from what I understand are "bypassed" when your foot isn't in it, but that belt is always spinning the 'charger (except for some modern Edelbrock low profile ones IIRC the pulley disengages when not on the pedal?)
Point is it seems like NO2 is a good power adding option as long as it is done right, and that means everything that goes along with doing it "right".

I am all for your 9.99's.Let us know.

My 63 has run 10.70's and I drive it all the time on the street as its a 99% street car. Its a mild N/A 440/493 stroker that I race as I drive it through the full exh on pump. If you click the link in my sig it has all about my car with the combo in the link. My car was also in the April 2018 issue of Mopar Muscle. I took it out today to go to a local cruise 15 miles from my house. After sitting in traffic for 1-1/2 hrs I gave up and went back home. I just could not get through no matter what road I took and that's because they had the funeral for the Police officer Mrs Caprio today here in Md and they blocked off a lot of roads plus its a holiday weekend and the traffic is the worse I have ever seen. I love driving my car on the street but I want to drive it not sit in traffic and go nowhere. Ron

I just started using a small 150 HP shot on mine and am really loving it so far. I've used up a bottle on the street so far and it sure is fun!

Sure not the fastest of the group, my '66 Satellite is very street worthy and has gone 10.50. There's much more in there. Stays cool for the street cruise events.
