I have a 440 30 over comp ratio is 9.75 to 1. It ha 906 heads big valves headers edelbrock perfomer intake 750 double pumper carb and a crane 280h cam. I dont know what hp rating it has. The bottom line is I would like to make 500HP what is the best combination to get there and can I get there with what I already have started. Thanks steve

Aluminum heads :) you will get a lot of info here. Sounds like you are close already.

Thanks there is just something wrong with setup it runs out good but no low end. It has 391 gears and I can hardly get it to spin tires. Thanks steve

What do think of the edelbrock 60929 heads. Thanks steve

Thats what I say just not sure where. Thanks steve

Here is a basic question that needs to be asked. Is this car a four speed (A-833) or an 3-Speed Auto (727)? A factory 727 could severely limit your performance if you are still running the stock stall converter. If it's a four speed, pop the clutch' at 5,000RPM... It'll smoke em' :). You should be somewhere in the 450HP range at the moment. Take it to the chassis dyno and get a baseline and go from their. A reputable tuner will know how to dial in your carburetor to make the most power with your current combination. A few jets and power valve swaps later, you could possibly have an entirely different car on your hands. Good Luck.

Its a 727 with a 2500 stall convertor Iam going to play with jetting and Iam loking at the edelbrock head intake cam combo. Thanks steve

I bet the cam is retarded.....no low end but gets up and goes well once the rpm hits around 3000 rpm? Who installed the cam and did they use a degree wheel? If they used a wheel, what's the setting? I've seen this happen so many times that it's stoooopid.

Thats what I was thinking I degreed it and it came out at 8 degrees advanced should tear it up at low end. Thanks steve

Assuming you have the cam in correctly....what else have been done to the heads besides the valves? Was the valve pocket cleaned up to insure a smooth transition in and out of the ports? The stock factory back cut (or pockets) sucked at best and if the shop that installed the valves didn't do anything else, you have a bottle neck right there. The info you've given on the engine isn't enough for us to make an educated guess on what the problem is. Btw, have you had it to the track for some baseline test runs? Also, what's your ignition set at and what kind of vacuum do you have at idle? Also, what is your cranking compression testing at?

I have msd ign. dont know about vac but will check and get back to you. The head had a valve job with seats and guides. it ran 12.50 before. I havent ran it with new motor work. I keep going back to cam. Ill check vac that will tell me if cam is concern if cam is of vac will be low right. Thanks steve

No port work have been done to the heads? What all was done to the engine from when it ran the 12.50? What is your initial timing and total timing?

I spun a rod brg. Got a diff. block had crank worked over rods reworked got new pistons flat top just like old ones. I reused heads cam intake and carb. The old block pistons down in hole .054 new pistons set the same. The old motor would lite tires up for days this one wont. I just cant help but think its in the cam or valve train. I have mest with carb I have 75 in prim. and 80 in sec. dont recall what power valve what shoul I be using. Iam just lost becouse it is pretty much same motor just no power. Thanks steve

I did degree cam like I said its 8degrees advanced. Did leak down test with rockers off vec I have 15 percent loss. in every hole valve job is only 20 miles old dont know if 8degrees adanced could tap valve. Dont know the one thing I do know is its going to come apart again. I dont have a lot of faith in the mach. work either but thats a hole diff. can of worms. Thanks steve p.s. If you had a standard block and about 5k to work with what parts would you use to get the 550 hp looking for.

My Mopar Performance .484 cam is advanced 4 deg, 8 seems like a lot?

My ? is do you think 8 could have tapped a ex valve that is where the 15 percent leak down is going
