HP exhaust manifold verses Header comparison

The FAST cars are very tricky to drive because of the tire restrictions. A typical 10 second FAST car 60 foots like an ordinary 12-13 second car, then just boogies once it is hooked up. Most use almost bald tires of the required size, and then treat them with some sort of traction compound, a closely gaurded secret.
I think other cars are allowed to use equivalent tires, but what if your car came with only redlines? Do they have to use $400 each redlines to race on?

They actually 60 ft pretty well.

The FAST class is pretty cool. But be cautious using them as an inspirational example for a regular guy on a budget. These are well scienced out race cars, big budgets, but on crapy tires. 15:1 CR, 530+ cu in, extremely aggressive roller cams, loose lash, trick suspensions, weight reduction...........

What do you want, what parts do you already have, what is your budget, and how fast do you want to go? You may, or may not be able to get there with manifolds. You just need to decide.

Ground Tremor's maybe ,,, Great discussion guys. I'll be putting on some new headers in the Spring that will fit my budget. Hope one one was seriously offended.

But now the Mopars? I could (and still can, mostly) tell them a block away when they're approaching.
They have a certain sound to them.

The wrecked '70 Charger I'm rebuilding may be fitted with Magnum manifolds only because I am likely to use the original 383 engine and because I have never used a stock big block in anything. That car may get a set of headers eventually though. I've had headers in my A body cars and can admit that none fit that great except the TTIs. I was given a set of Hedmans and even FREE, they were not worth it!

I like my TTi headers just fine. They don't leak, my plug wire looms keep the conductors off them, I try my best to avoid road hazards that are over 5 or 6" high and I slow down for speed bumps if I see them in time.
And they sound awesome from the rear of the car.
And I don't trailer my car anywhere.
And I don't drag race either.

Love that car! Yes it is very fast but it would be faster yet with headers.

The hemi manifolds -appear- to be one of the best as far as factory manifolds go but still rather small outlets and the drivers side pairs cylinders 1 and 3.

Also for some reason the top of the port is at an extreme downward angle. There was plenty of room to have a nice radius here but for some reason they were not cast that way.

A recent thread on this (different forum) a member stated his 795hp Hemi with headers made 762hp with extrude honed manifolds.

That is precisely what I am banking on with my stroker in my Fury. My power band will be between 1500 and 5500 with big torque to move the big boned gal with her 3.23 rear.

I run the HP exhaust manifolds on my '73 Charger. The issues I've found are: they cook the valve cover gaskest so I started replacing them about once a year (depends on mileage/running time).
I have to raise the car and go up to get to #5 and #7 spark plugs.
And, In the photo you can see where the manifolds burned the paint on the hood.

No complaints, just my experience.
They do sound kind of like headers.

I have seen how close the Magnum manifolds sit to the valve covers and thought that they were more likely to cook the lower part of the valve cover gaskets.
Also, the denser the metal, the longer it will retain heat. The thin tubing of headers do heat up faster but they also cool off faster. My TTIs are coated and have posed no problems with heat to my gaskets or wires.
