Wanting to check and reset the hydraulic flat tappet lifter preload in my 440.

Checking the Hughes info that I have as it's all their stuff.

Cam is an HEH2832bl
Hughes racing lifters
and CNC 1.5:1 rocker shafts

Also running aluminum heads which I am unsure if this will effect where my preload should be?

Hughes says for street/strip preload is .015/.020 or 1/4 to 1/2 turn.

If I read correctly following the adjustment chart per cylinder and spin the pushrod until it has 0 play and won't easily spin then my 1/4 to half turn preload?

Yes that simple and watch the push rods turn on their own. Use a piece of wood 12- 18 inchs long place one end on rocker bar next to rocker your adjusting. Listen to the sound it makes. You will just hear the clatter disappear then back off a 1/4 turn. Make sure you see push rods turn.

Sounds correct, but I believe you tighten the adj screw 1/4 turn after the clatter stops. This sets the pre load.

Does the different explansion rate of the aluminum head change anything? Thought I heard about that before.

Warm the eng up first before you set them and you will be fine. Ron
