Anybody have thought on the possibility of keeping the bench but still adding some kind of console? Maybe not something as fancy as what 747 put together for himself but I came across these pics in a 70 roadrunner with buckets that's for sale and the I'm thinking that looks pretty easy to do something similar but just shorter?? And would NEED to have cupholders dammit!!

Thanks man, that's what I was shooting for haha I kinda stole them from that "Twisted Fish" channeled 'Cuda that had some really similar ones.

And I say hell yeah on whipping up a shorty console, if it were me, I'd adjust the bench to the best driving position for you (as far forward as you want) and make the console so it butts almost right up to the front of the bench. The least gap you'd have right there, the cleaner it'd look I think. Think you're right on the height being a little shorter than the pics too, slim and tucked would be the ticket.

I'm lucky I'm tall because given the shifter will have to move back a few inches for sure to clear the throw the bench will have to be all the way back which is where I keep it anyways. As for the rest I think our vision is on the same page.... I'll have to keep this in mind as an option.

Lots of us tall folk around here it seems! And Ron it's amazing how valued a silly little cup holder can be! hahaha Especially driving a stick and not having a free hand!

And i agree, there is a lot of tall guys here, Not used to it in real life living, Thats one thing that i think about a lot when im looking UP at a guy, just not used to it at all and there is a couple guys around my area (brothers) that have im guessing 4-5 inches on me looking at them.... If you look around on Ebay there's nice stainless cup holders (marine use), this is where I found mine. Sounds pretty cool!

Do you remember those cheezy plastic cup holders that were sold when we were kids? They hung on the window belt line and fit a can of pop - that was before plastic bottles. Hit a little bump and you had a syrupy mess running down your door panel. Boy, those were the days lol.

It's funny I feel like I grew up in the land of the Giant's hahah! In the small Northern Ontario town I was from I was pretty much average size of my friends! I'm 6'4" and only had to look up to a couple of my buddies but there were a few that were just crazy strong from the "farm boy" lifestyle. I was always more the "gym strong" than the "bail hay" strong but I never would shy away from some hard work outside especially since I always knew what that work could do for you! Living so far from home now and in a bigger city I miss that lifestyle and I do see plenty of people taller than me but often athletes or more frail/lanky rather than the big folk I grew up around.

That's a great place to start, Thanks Dev! (as always!!!) It's just a thought right now but if there's a way I could incorporate something functional and stylish I think it would be a nice interior piece and something "different" I know there's also a sort of "slide and pop down" unit that could be figured into my ashtray location but again it's weird I'm stuck on little parts of the cars originality like the bench seat, sweep guage and ashtray but willing to drop in a weird console! hahaha I guess I have an eclectic mix of a vision when it comes to this car

We may be a few years apart Elk so can't say I recall those but I can get a pretty good idea of what you're describing and it definitely wasn't a good permanent fix! haha



On a side note winter finally arrived to kick some ***! Got a little over a foot of snow overnight Sunday and finally warming up a bit today but for about 3 days it was about -30 C (-22F) Hope this is short lived!

Sounds familiar, I hag big plans on shaving my door handles and rain gutters but when it came time I was thinking "Man I really like those old thumb button door pulls and the rain gutter trim looks pretty cool on there" I still have them both. What I really appreciate is the foot operated high beams and wing windows, why did they ever do away with either of those?

Ya it's weird how some things just need to be kept! Mostly because it's not "stylish" by today's standards but it sets the period apart... like the thumb button door handles. And agreed the foot operated high beam (didn't they get rid of those as primarily a fire hazzard??) and wing windows are nice to have... I always feel like I'm going to see the resurgence of a wing window in something more modern

Thanks Rick, Those are pretty sweet! Any pics of yours in the Bee? $30 sounds like a steal I'll definitely look into this further as an option... my only concern is sitting on the seat it might be in the way of my arm where I want to grab my shifter.

I wish they would make the cars like they used to! Old habits are hard to break with us, well me anyway, vent windows, i remember when they stopped making them and i hated it, smokers needed them lol... Took me forever to remember where the dimer switch was after they stopped the foot ones, I guess maybe my wife and mom are right, i do live ine the past...

Doing some reading today if there's any alternative to the electronic to mechanical speedometer box I'll need to run the T56 with my stock mechanical speedo. There are mechanical conversions you can buy for the tailshaft or a few places you can send them the tailshaft to that will do the conversion but price is essentially the same as the conversion box. Seems like the box is likely the way to go. (reviews online of the boxes seem good.) I've also noticed some you can calibrate with internal dipswitches but not sure if the one I'm looking at has that capability.

So on to my next question. My "intent" (hahaha) is that I'd like to have all the parts necessary for the swap on hand except of course for the pieces that will need to be made custom after installation (driveshaft and shift handle) essentially saying I can drive it with the 4 speed until I have the $$ to avoid labor for the swap. Well we all know as soon as I have everything home I'm going to be itching to get it in so I hate asking the "what's it worth" question because there are so many variables but I can't find many comparibles complete and even less availability in Canada... So on to the question... What would be fair ask for the complete A833 set up out of my car... from Flywheel, bell housing to driveshaft essentially everything but my pedal set-up as I will be retaining that. The centreforce clutch was inspected for replacement when I did the engine swap this year and the clutch was in perfect condition but I chose to put in a new disc just to be safe. Any thoughts?

Thanks Rick! Looks like a nice fit and perfect match! Might not work for my application though since my shifter will be a little back from stock location I think it would be right in the travel of my arm. It's a shame that looked like an easy fix to my cupholderness issues! hahaha!

I did have the parts for a 4 speed conversion,decided to stay with # ,s match auto with column shift built reverse manual by SMR trans. My stroker has enough torque to do nice rolling 1-2 shift burnouts , no need for foot braking burnouts....LOL
Just sorting minor EFI problems .Ran great the last time out. Would like to cool under hood temps as can reach 120+ degrees into the throttle body. Maybe a 6 pack hood ?

Mike,when you finish with your trans upgrade you can try the console to check for shifter interference.Frank picked one up also, not sure what he paid or how it looks for a 69 Road Runner bench seat 4 speed project with a 426 Hemi,should be on the road this spring.
