I.D. This Part Please...

I guess the biggest deal is that the shock mounts were never designed to be load carrying points-you risk bending or breaking the upper mount especially, as Monte Man illustrated. I have airshocks on Arty, came on it, there only because the leafs are shot. They are on the replacement list, as are the wheel hop prone Gabriels. Likely Koni adjustables going in, if I can afford them.

If you dont pump them up rock hard the shock crossmember isnt carrying the full load, you can get coil assist shock for these cars and it is no different then the air shocks. Its just another old wives tale sorta like unilug wheels. One person had a problem so everyone thinks there bad.

I put air shocks on my 69 RR, but keep the pressure around 25 PSI. Gets the rear bumper closer to its original height. 40 years of weight on the leaf springs have made them sag a little. Ha Ha. Like they say, sooner or later gravity takes over! Lol, (Dont say that to your wife!)

I also raised the torsion bars a little. Gives the whole car a better stance

Still figuring out what I want to do. I'll let you know if I don't need 'em anymore. OK thanks.

Were the airshocks, with the inflation tubing a factory item, or do you think they were added aftermarket?

More than likely aftermarket.

Well, this "old wife" has 40 years in the auto repair biz, so I guess I'll acquiesce to your superior knowledge.

The only vehicles I've ever seen with factory air shocks were chebbie el caminos and gmc sprints. I am sure there were probably others.
