I don't want to go to work tomorrow.

Youngsters. What’s the hurry. Did some inquiring today. Numbers are great. Still not ready. Linda is afraid I’ll die on the table so wanted to review the POA and designated beneficiary. She dies I get the Charger, I die she gets $$$$.
I had fear of dying during my surgery in 2017. As silly as it sounds, as I woke from the surgery, I opened my eyes and my first words were "**** yeah!" The next words were...."Where is Mary?" Death during surgery is very low. Last month, my 76 year old Mother in law underwent open-heart surgery and came through fine.
Back on topic:
For me, I wouldn't just ride the couch if I retired. I'd continue to build and sell cars. I'd work some side jobs framing roofs or remodel stuff. I am just burned out on the long drive. The construction trade in Northern CA is often like this. One job is near, the next one is far. I'm tired of spending 4-5 hours a day commuting. If the work was within 45 minutes and was the type of stuff I enjoy, I may stick with it.

I'm 62, been retired for 10 years this coming May 19th. Don't worry about riding the couch, I do what I want, when I want, if I want. I'm always working on one thing or another. It's not about not working, it's about working when I want, doing work I want to. After I retired my brother and I had a rehab business, I loved doing it. We'd gut homes for the wealthy and throw endless amounts of money at these places. We did it for 5 years and then it started to turn into work so we quit!! Now I go shopping for hours buying whatever, driving in my 65, in the summer we swim in our pool!! I'm buying a condo in the next month or so. It's nice, but, I'm dropping a 20 yarder in front and field dressing it and build it back to my wife's likening. If she likes it I'll sell my home and make this condo my last move. Then we may try another place at the lake, a condo this time. Two condo's with no upkeep, that's the life for me now.

I'm going on points. I'll be 59. I'm tired of all the BS & mandatory overtime. I've averaged 59 hours a week so far this year. That doesn't leave much time for fun stuff. Moneys not the most important thing, time above ground is. Your days are numbered and no one knows how many we have. I've had too many friends in the last year or two pass away. I don't want to be chasing a $ when my day comes.

I don't want to sound like a whiny (fill in the blank). But, I'm only 18 years old, turning 19 at Carlisle. I've had 2 jobs so far. Both of them were a "joke". The 1st one was part time, I liked it but a couple things kind of got me angry. The 2nd was full time and good pay, but the lowest in the company. Had quite a bit of BS. It was 3rd shift too. That was one of the worst parts. Leaving the house at 8:40 at night, then coming home at 5:30 in the morning and sleeping the majority of the day. Then doing it all over again. I unfortunately left. For other reasons too. I didn't mind it at first, and it was actually kind of fun too, but then it got "old" fast. I called it going to hell. Isn't it true you're supposed to like your job? I just want something that has better hours and good pay too. I'm still looking, hopefully I'll find something real soon. I hopefully have something lined up in about a month or so though too.

Jobs you like may not be landed until later. Sometimes you need to do what is necessary to provide a roof. Good luck.

There is a reason why were you work is called the workplace and not the fun place.

I work 3 days a week, 13 hours a day. Have the 4 day weekends. Next year I retire. The day after I retire, the wife will get her glock and shoot my ***:elmer:.....:D

if the damn weather would warm up a bit I could take the boat to work! operating/opening a resort is fun after may when the party starts and then in oct when everybody leaves!

I just heard that our NEXT job is 136 miles away.
Good luck getting guys to work THAT job ! I will not be on that job. NOPE.
It is going to be hard to get any people to work the job. It is in Healdsburg, north of Santa Rosa. Anyone that can swing a hammer is already working in the housing industry up there, rebuilding after the fires of 2017.

They should pay you from the time you leave the house until you get home plus mileage. I worked 8 miles from home, only snow days were a PITA.

The furthest that I drove daily was 122 miles each way. That was in 2011 when work was scarce. The new job is 14 miles past that and the route has more traffic today than it did in 2011. Driving that would be 2 1/2 hours in the morning and probably 3 to 4 hours in the afternoon.
NOPE.

That situation can only be worked by having a travel trailer to live in during the week and then go home on the weekends.

Slave labor if you ask me.

I have seen pictures of your work. You are skilled, talented, and experienced. Move somewhere else...out of state as soon as you can.

Can 4 get together and stay in the lap of luxury in a local Motel 6 or such for the week? Just be selective...

Uhhh....AND wake up like THIS ??

Nah....
I like my Wife too much to be away.

Thank you for the kind words. 9 more months of Union work is all I need. I don't mind if that takes 18 months to get there!

My last few years in corporate America I commuted from far south Orange County to the West Valley it took me 3.15 hours each way on a normal day. Anyone that knows SoCal knows that’s probably the most hellish commute in the Los Angeles area. Had a heart attack - was off for a year - went back for a year then said goodbye. I couldn’t take it anymore. I was so burned out it took me a few years in retirement to get my bearings. Life is WAAAY to short to live that life and no amount of money is worth it. The other part of it was the politics and work environment was filled with back stabbing head hunting. My last 10 years were beastly but I needed the money for a good part of it. I don’t know why I’m puking this all up now - I’m retired - I’m just glad I didn’t stay a year too long. I’ve seen many guys do so never live to enjoy what they worked for. If your job is impacting your health or threatens to find another job or bail if you can. I wish I would have checked out earlier but at least it wasn’t far too late.

Thanks. My health is fine, at least my physical health.
I get really angry and frustrated with the drive home. Many days I have just stumbled in, pissed off at the world and I need to be in a room alone for awhile just to shake off the bad vibes. Weekends are great but sometimes as Sunday winds down, I feel anxiety about the work week starting again. I have absolutely NONE of these feelings when I'm in between jobs or when I am working close to home. It absolutely is due to the shitty commute.

The emotional toll will be heavy and will affect your physical well being. Listen to your wife and I hope that she will be quick to tell you of changes she sees in you as these jobs gradually grind you down.

Mental health impacts physical health in an unseen way. And vice versa. I was stunned to have a heart attack but the way we’re wired it’s all connected. I would never do what I did again. It wasn’t worth it. But full disclosure: for about six months I rented a room in Hollywood to stay a few days a week to mitigate the commute. But most of the time I just dead headed it. Be careful bro - you have a family.

How long would it take you to be ready for an out-of-state move? Toss out what isn't needed will take how long? It will take 5 professional movers one day to pack up a 1,500 square foot house plus 2 car garage. It will take one day for them to load the moving van. It will take them (3 to 5 people) one day to unload and unpack the boxes at your new destination. How many cars are you going to take with you to your new location. You can probably get a good deal with an open carrier hauling five cars.

Where are you going? Tennessee? How about moving there soon and then retiring at some point? Is Texas on your short list?
When are you going to visit locations in these states?
