What a great story!!! Good for you guys! You're right, so enjoy, you're a lucky man to find that sweet spot in life, many don't. Be safe! The wife and I have been "Retired" for almost a year now; however, we have not stopped working. We now do the jobs we want to do while at the same time trying to find a new house/shop. A little commercial job here, a little work for a friend there, and a lot of work for a family member. It is a lot more fun working when you want and on what you want. It also feels great to help someone out that could have never afforded the work that we (wife and I) did for them. Have not drawn a dime from the 401K since we left, and our expenses are not that much. Campground fees get a little wonky at times but we knew that going into this travel gig. Both of us will start drawing SSA when we hit 62 as that math worked very much in our favor. Health care was a lot less than we figured and I was able to continue life insurance on both of us thru my former employer. Housing costs are still STUPID high so we have not bought anything yet. We are enjoying our "homeless" lifestyle so far and we often stay with relatives. As I have noted before, get out as soon as you can afford it and enjoy yourself. If you find great joy in going to your current job; hey, keep working until the good lord calls ya. To each their own, but I want to see all that I can see before they close my eyes for the last time. To me, doing/seeing this is much more fun than work!!!!!!

No need to apologize for anything, sir. I have a daughter in real estate and one in finance. It is crazy right now. The building here is unbelievable, I think values have dropped some. I still have people calling a couple times a week wanting to buy my home. Of course the answer is always the same. Of course, the historical lows on interest rates helped bring home prices up. I think they will level off. They can’t seem to keep up with the influx of people moving here. Take care and good luck with your house hunting.Quick rant and then back tp peaceful existence! The wife and I have been searching for a new home/shop for almost a year now. We gladly took advantage of the crazy high home prices last year. We sold our home for over asking price and had several offers the first day it was listed. I has been almost a year and the housing market is still all screwed up. My daughter found a home she liked, just outside of Kalamazoo, it was listed at 450K. She wanted it so right after the showing, she put in an offer of 475K (25K over asking). By the end of the showing, there were 15 offers on the property. She got a call the next day and was informed that the seller accepted a cash offerer. My rant is: who are these people that have 1/2 a million lying around. None of the people I hang with could pull that off, just saying!!!! We have noticed prices starting to fall since the start of the year, but by less than 10% on average. Need the prices to fall back to pre-covid levels before I learn to like it. Okay, done with my rant and blood pressure back to normal!
Sir, just keep on keeping on. You’ll be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and it won’t be a train. Take care and remember the goal!I do not want to go to work tomorrow.
But I will...
I been getting up at 5am & getting home 12 hours later & then diddling with the tree carnage, weeds & some other springtime tasks until dark that I am TRYING to enjoy.
I am Tired.
I am grumpy.
I haven't been posting up much on FBBO for quite a while because I do not want to go in to a negative rant.
Oops! I felt it creeping in...
I have HOPE in one hand and $ in the other that my car will be on the road again.
Eventually.
I did start it and listen to it rumble and am motivated to get back in to it!
Did I say I was tired?
And motivated.
It feels good to be typing again here!
Goodnight all.
I was the same way upon retiring in 2020. After working for the airline for 32yrs which is all about meeting a schedule for everything. So I decided to go for a 1 Hr walk every morning M-F to start the day off. It gives me a little structure to start the day and has helped my health as a great byproduct. I've lost some weight and my blood pressure is down and more important my A1C is back down to normal. They say exercising outside is better than inside because the more visual stimulus you have is better for the old melon.I have been retired since November and the sentiment continues....For me, this is still a mix of freedom and boredom.
I love having the freedom to do whatever I want to do but I've known for years that I am at my best when I have a little more structure and some obligations. Some people do their best work when a deadline looms ahead. I know that I can be that way sometimes.
My wife likes the Alaskan cruises too...My brother and I took a cruise to Alaska in early May. I've been wanting to do this for at least twenty years - my wife thinks anything under 70 degrees is "too cold". My brother wanted to get all 50 states under his belt, and Alaska was the 50th. So, off we went! The cruise was fantastic (Norwegian Bliss), but the air connections from home to/from Seattle were absolute crap - mostly timing of connections. Ever spend the night in Denver's oh-so-wonderful DIA??? Nothing is open, of course. I did this going to AND from Seattle. I blame that on my friend, the travel agent. At my age, that kind of flying is killer, and not in a good way. So, I've done my cruise bit and my Alaska bit in one fell swoop. It was all well worth it, guaranteed!
I'm missing all the access to the machines we had at work and one that's needed right now is a radial arm drill press!Mark been retired from the elevator business & he's missing all the new improvements....
