I’m paying for the wifes RN school now another year then she has to take the finals, 5 years so far and i can’t wait to retire on her dime after. That’s the plan anyways.

Looks like you live in two states, CA and NV. If you plan on staying and her working in CA and there's a Univ of CA around you should try to get her in there. My wife works at UC Medical Center in Irvine. As high as her pay is, it's strangely one of the lower paid of the UC Medical Centers for some reason. Their collective bargaining agreement for RNs is very good. And the max patient load per RN is 4 by state law. Anywhere else all bets are off. Still a good job and secure but the pay would likely be half of what a CA RN makes and the patient load is what ever they can get away with - Sometimes 6 - 8. Arnold got that passed when he was Gov.

Shes working all angles, vary competitive with RNs . When she does clinical she’s trying to make friends where ever she can. Her scores are good but still sometimes it’s who you know but we are positive.

retired at 48 years old 11 years ago. laid around and chilled for a year. first thing i did was gain a ton of weight. got a DVT in my leg and spent 2 weeks in a lung ward trying not to die.
stay busy when ya do hang it up. I 100% believe that the body can't go from working every day to doing nothing. the change is a shock to it. buddy retired just before i did after 40+ years... had a bad stroke 6 months later and now is a veg. all his and wifes dreams up in smoke... But if ya number comes up. ain't poop ya can do about it anyway... . jmo

I'll probably end up taking some part time or seasonal job (outside of my career field) for a while so it's not such a shock.

I was in a similar situation, and ended up working full time plus until age 69. Wife was able to put together a sweet part time deal with benefits, and retired five years before me. I was a self employed truck driver, and controlled a blue chip customer with on call service, as the only driver servicing the account. Going part time on a company truck would have cut my pay about 80%. The other problem was that the "part time" guys were all pressured to run all week, for no benefits, on the worst paying loads. I refused to put myself in that position.

The upside was I finished with extremely comfortable finances, and completed my GTX collection with the crown jewel I'd chased my entire adult life. Also lucky that my health remained intact. In the end, I think it worked to my advantage that part time was not a viable option. In my case, retirement was not a shock, but a greatly appreciated opportunity to finally rest.

For all those that got to retire when they wanted to. A big Uha Hoo. For too many of us, well we were forced into it. My plan was to hold out till 70. After the last 4 years I did not even know if being alive at 70 was a possibility.
Unless something unexpected happens, I should still be here. Feel better now than I have in a long time. Just can't do anything presently. Guess that's why I retired.
Now to convince customer that I have.

I frequently think of going back to construction. I loved most of it.
I was a top guy with the framing company I worked for but felt obligated to follow them to jobs that were often far from home. It was up to me, I could have quit but I chose to stick with them. We had a couple of years when the work was within 45 minutes drive. That was great. That left afternoons free for car stuff, yard work or other outdoor activities.
I wouldn’t go back to a job to build schools or commercial buildings. That was boring and the wood was bigger and heavier.
Framing roofs on houses appealed to me because you could get through a 2000 sq ft house in under a week and move onto the next. That production mentality was right up my alley. Set them up, knock them down.
Projects that ran for years didn’t interest me. I liked to build smaller structures then move on to something else.

Yep, I just quit my gig a week ago Friday.
Took a quick glance at Social Security - ummm, nope.
Instead, I have accepted a generous offer from another company at quite the sizeable increase.
I have been friendly with the company for many years now and know some of the folks there,
referring customers to them over time.
I start Wednesday, but it won't be work from home as I've had the last 8 years.
Hope I have enough left in the tank to hit the road again. I guess I'm going to find out...

I hate this "no safety net" shiyat.
