LMAO....... this dude popped into my head

he drove a 68ish Firebird, fast car....... I actually like those cars.

Anyway, his quarter panels needed to be replaced....... and for years, like 10 or more, and likely to this day; he drove around with quarter skins in his trunk!...... he would pop the trunk and show them off.......like "Look, I have the quarters, I just have to put them on"........ stuff like this amuses me to no end

I've got parking brake cables and a speedometer cable for 10+ years for my 69 RR - "I just have to put them on"

And I know a guy who's got a GTX who has had parts for maybe 2 decades?
Someday he'll fix it up.
:poke:

do you make it a point to pop the trunk to show off your p brake cables at the local cars and coffee?

I'm sure you know he's fishing for cheap/free labor.

I carry spare bits in the back of my camper. And so the wrong PerTronix ignition has been to many far off places.

I carried a correct date code NOS Carter AVS in the trunk of Baby Blue for years. It was my comeback for the no car nit pickers who dissed me on the Holley street avenger.

Turbine68rt has it on his Charger now.

You & me both,
I love the 68 400 Ram Air 4 speed cars, like my stepdad Bob had,
Stock-Eliminator/G class
dark green & black top & interior, neat cars
no quarters in the trunk carried around thou, it was pristine form day 1
from Meridian Pontiac in Concord, was supposed to be a body in white car
they gave him a deal on one off the lot instead

your lil' story made my memory banks kick in, figure wth
carry on

you could, 421s & 428s were great engines
but it wouldn't be available from the factory, not in a Firebird
but same size blocks from a 326-455

Not from the factory, but some dealers (like Myrtle and Royal) installed them.

Those 400's ran pretty good themselves. I always liked the Firebirds, the Camaro's not so much. You could pick up a 400 Firebird for peanuts for quite awhile too, just lately they've picked up value.

Yep custom tuners did that stuff, for a price

much like
Nickey Chevy, Don Yenko Chevy, Motion Performance, Royal Bobcat,
Mickey Thompson (also big in Pontiac's aftermarket parts, Hemi Pontiac heads)
Grand Spaulding Dodge, Dick Landy Dodge, Grumpy's Garage, or the likes
a bunch of that era super-tuners, all did specialty cars, not offered by the factory

cool time to be into cars for sure

Back in the 60’s, Chevy dealer had parts dept open till midnight in Akron,Oh. Those were the days, Arlen Vanke was 20 minutes from me.

I knew a guy... ( circa 1970 ) lived across the street, had a 68 Hemi R/T Automatic. Pulled the engine, as he was going off to Vietnam. Returned 2 years later, sold the car to a guy in the neighborhood, sans engine. He dropped a 440 into the car, I had a few shotgun rides in that beast. First guy hemi went into a track car. Nobody gave a rat's *** about originality or numbers matching then. In fact, nobody knew such things, or cared.

I showed the cop the brand new mufflers in the trunk, and the slip from the parts store for buying them that day,and told him I was on my way to get them installed.........still got the ticket!
