I need more cooling - Radiator Suggestions?

Have you ever FLUSHED the system? That might help too.

The original equipment worked for decades, so why waste money on HIGH dollar "Gee Whiz" crap...

Satellite isn't listed, but should fit no problem; If in doubt, call and ask. I would also use the proper 195 degree thermostat in it. Lowering the temp rating does NOT lower the temp of the engine, it only opens the thermostat earlier. It would also stay open, and not cycle open/close to regulate the temp.

Wow thats a tight fit!!! I have to say I love my aluminum radiator, not sure of the brand but it keeps her cool while driving, once I stop she heats up rather quickly due to the hotter cam I just put in tho.

That's right. Copper cools just fine. Green coolant. 180 Napa Superstat. Shroud. Laser temperature gun to be sure of actual temp.

My high dollar gee whiz crap cost alot less than the stuff you're calling out here. Just because it worked good for decades, doesn't mean it's gonna outperform new era parts. That's enough of my rant and I'll leave it at that. Build and drive whatever and however you want. In the end it all comes down to personal preference, unless you're restoring to factory condition. I like to make my rides stand apart from plain Jane. Don't get me wrong I like factory too,and if that's what other people like...fine. I guess I had a little rant left...lol

I'll be nice and just say you obviously don't know what you are talking about when it comes to hi end radiators. They aren't for all applications obviously but if someone was looking for the best then I posted info and costs. I dropped over 18k into my engine and wanted it protected properly. 720 is a drop in the bucket

I have this radiator for sale. Not sure if it will be fit but looks similar. I never used it cuz it wouldn't fit my 318 setup.
$100 plus ride. Suppose to have been re-cored prior to me getting it.

I'm willing to bet a shroud will probably be all that you need. The fans not pulling enough air through the radiator. With out a shroud it just moving air around the fan blades behind the radiator the shroud forces the air to be pulled through the radiator.

Also as mentioned throwing in a bottle of water wetter or a product like it will help some too. Personal experience with one of my neon's with a small factory radiator would creep in temp on hot days even with fans going. Removed a little coolant added a bottle and the creep went away. That was a brand new radiator and flushed out system new water pump and thermostat.

Before you do anything, put in a 165 stat. That solved my problem. Then go from there.

I don't think you have told us how many row core do you have now? If only two-that will not be enough. Can you check your fan clutch to make sure it is "locking" up when the temp comes up? ( like at slow speed) Rule out the simple stuff before paying big bucks for something you may not need. Some cars have flaps above and below the radiator that are to direct the air thru the radiator rather than letting air go around it. Many times these "flaps" are lost or taken off.................................MO

Okay Gentlemen, here is where I am going. The engine has a new 180* thermostat and I have to agree that I am content with that. With that thermostat I am just setting the base line temp of the engine and it's always been 180* so I am staying there. The car has a new three row factory radiator and a seven blade fan. It also has a 50/50 mixture of good antifreeze/coolant with a good "water wetter" in it. With the car moving at 25 or more it will cool right down to 180* from 200* so the cooling system is working. I have an airflow issue at idle and in traffic. I'll pop for the $260 on the fan shroud and I think that may solve the issue. It's worth a try and I think I'm moving in the right direction here. On the fan clutch, it may be time for a new one as I don't remember ever replacing it. So that wouldn't hurt either.

Don't get me wrong, I love the look of the aluminum radiators but I am kind of attached to the old school look too. I think this cooling issue is a marginal thing as where I used to live and keep the car a 75 degree day was sweltering heat and I had no problem. Now that I'm living in an area where summer norms can be 80's to 90's I'm seeing this car go over 190* and higher and it makes me nervous.

I certainly appreciate all the suggestions of folks to contact for the parts and the web links. Together I think we have and will solve this issue. We all know that at a car show or cruise you hate to pull out of line for a hot car spewing steam or water. Us gear heads are impressed by the big inch cruisers that keep there cool idling in traffic. That is where I want to be.

Thanks Again,

Lisa

Sounds like you have a handle on it but you might do a few searches on that 2 piece shroud. I've seen them for a lot less.

Great advice....... I will indeed research it a little further. Looking at that shroud and then my car again it looks like it will indeed fit. That does seem like a lot of money and I would like to beat that if I can. Maybe I'll start a new thread on just a shroud.......

I so appreciate the advice.
