I am an IT Manager for a municipality so I typically work 7am to 5-ish but it depends on what needs to be done. A Lot of my work has to be done after hours so it does not affect daily operations. YES it can be stressful but satisfying too.
It depends I travel sometimes then it could be anything from 40 to 85 hrs in a week. In shop we work 4 10s and a 8 on fridays. But we’re slow so it’s just 8 5 days a week.
Retired but when working 4 - 12 hour days 4 days off. You go in on an off day, time and a half, double if it was Sunday. Holidays didn't figure as a work or off day. There 2 crews one worked while other crew was off, machines ran 7 days a week. So if the holiday was in the middle of your 4 days on you worked 2 days, off 1, worked 2 more. The other crew had 5 days off. You'd get those 5 days off just depended on how holidays fell. I loved the schedule, wife HATED it.
When it stops being fun is when it's work. I started with Southern Bell in December 66. The line crew for a couple of years, then installed telephones for a couple more. Then moved inside with the new at that time electronic switching equipment which is where I was when I retired from what was South Central Bell in 98. In 79 I started a Satellite TV business as I worked off shifts with whatever they called the telephone business then. I closed the doors on that business 2 years ago with it ending up as Satellite Continuing Education Business and Smart Classrooms. Selling these systems across Alabama and all the way up to Maryland. About 14 years ago as that business was slowing down, I bought a Body Shop here in Alabama to help with my passion for Mopars. That's not worked out for me very well as I find it hard to put my cars ahead of paying customers. Collecting, working on, and restoring Mopars since 1990 has been my hobby and passion. What started it all was my first new car. 67 Plymouth Satellite 383-4 4-speed. When Mopars stop being fun is when I quit. In my opinion I have never WORKED.
Depends on the company and development stage. I’m a manufacturing engineer in med device and most jobs last 3-4 years. Last year this time it was 8 months 6 days/wk 10-12 hr days. Just got FDA approval and after the initial ramp of 5x10 hr days now we are at volume and I’m working 4 days 8 hrs and Fridays off at 1pm for summer hrs. Nice to have a payoff like that and better hours but once they move production next year i am out of work and the cycle begins again...
Well right now I'm on daddy duty ! So 24/7
When I worked it was 12-13 hours a day 7 days a week sometime s up to 16 hours . energy shots were my friend!
I work what is referred to as the continental shift. 12 hour shifts 6am-6pm. Basically, one week I work Wednesday Thursday, the next week, I would have those 2 days off but work the rest. It’s actually a really good rotation as far as shift work goes. However, I just got promoted to the lead for the department so will be working 7-4 Monday through Friday... can’t wait!
