IM a card carrying member of AARP. LOL!!! I recall when i hit my fifties i got mail from AARP wanting me to join, very depressing LOL. Actually there magazine has some great articles. This month Sally Field is on the cover and at 69 years old she is as beautiful as ever.
I'll never join AARP. Their money goes to the DNC.

Well you might change your mind when you hit 65 and are getting SS benefits and Medicare. To say "there money goes to the DNC" may not be accurate. AARP might support politicians who support seniors and if those politicians are Democrats rather than Republicans then so be it. But dont believe me. Read up on the current tax package the president is pushing so hard. Im sure you have heard about the huge tax break that will be given to corporations on the hope that it will make business's stay in this country and provide more better paying jobs for middle America. Sounds great but who makes up the difference? Well for one its people on Medicare, which will see big cuts. AARP has great and helpful articles all geared toward older folks. They also as a benefit for members provide discounts on things like car rentals and more. If republican politicians were more concerned with seniors, AARP might throw them some money at campaign time LOL.......

Yeah, I'm sure the Kodak in the asscrack is on the agenda...

Make sure they use a camera with a windshield wiper.

On a related note, I had a physical a couple weeks ago & when the doctor got out the lube and rubber gloves, I said to him "Aren't you going to buy me dinner first?" He responded by saying that I have to pay him for the pleasure.

No lie.

Congratulation greg on your results So you guys got me thinking, am 42 1/2 and I never thought about getting a colonoscopy , should I get one or shoud I get the usual blood test ?

The practice I keep hearing from Kaiser Permanente is that a F.I.T. test is their early warning method. It is a test on a fecal sample that looks for early markers. No *** probe here yet.

The medical field recommends a colonoscopy at age 50 and older. I don't think insurance companies will pay for it until you are over 50. Unless your doctor gives good rational for it.

64. Never had one. Cheat and do the **** smear test. I eat some bran cereal in between bags of potato chips. Do blood work though. Gotta keep an eye on Billy Rubin and his brother Jerry.

One thing that I wonder about, something that rarely entered my mind 10 years ago:
Each time I feel a new twinge, a new pain....I wonder if it is here to stay, if it is serious, if it could be cancer or if it is temporary. I work in new construction so I'm bumping into stuff all the time, climbing, carrying lumber, working the muscles. So far, every ache and discomfort has been temporary.

An alternative that probably better suits you is the Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC). They are AARP-like but from the conservative viewpoint, plus they're cheaper to join. amac.us

Hmm, maybe I should go see a doctor one of these days. I am now 47 but haven't been to a doctor since my last physical 24 years ago when I started my job where I currently still work. I don't smoke (except for the occasional burnout), I don't drink, don't do drugs and don't eat a lot of fast food or hardly ever even get sick like from a cold or the flu.

I had the colonscope last week.

Heard several stories that "you don't even know it's been done" or "the best nap you've ever had".

Nope.

I will say the prep wasn't nearly as bad as I heard.

2 $1 bottles of citrus flavored magnesium citrate and 2x dulcolax.

no foaming, no cramping, and no running to the bathroom.
not even any uncontrolled or extended "evacuation"

Just around 5 trips to the room, the last three in liquid form.
next morning about 4 more, 3 in the waiting room with minor urgency.

I tell you what, though...the prep room at the hospital was someplace I did not wish to stay. all three roommates were around my age and in terrible shape.

Patient 1- 3 people to start the IV
Patient 2- 5 people to start the IV and a portable CAT device to find her vein
Patient 3- "besides the replaced hip, replaced knee, missing intestine, missing 1/3 of colon, exposed metal in abdomen, eye surgery, diabetes, COPD, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, arthritis, eczema, and recent fall from your roof, is there any thing else?"...and he says "well, there's, the.....

..he was 2 years older than me!

at that point I was saying "take me first, I'm 100% ready and yall have been spending 99.9% of your time with these cadavers in waiting. TAKE ME NOW!

...after I woke up it felt like someone had punched me in the gut...HARD.

No peaceful nap, just a LOT of crazy gas and a good gut bruising.

The doctor did come out and personally say my colon was "normal".

There are plenty of silent killers. Feeling fine is no guarantee. Better get checked out (colonoscopy) as a preventative measure.
