Insurance is ridiculous

Turrible, just turrrrrible

That's my guess. Even when I was 20 with a few marks and a new truck it was only 230 a month.

You gotta shop around Ryan, Call a few different brokers and put them all to work on it. I drive a lot for work (100,000km/yr) so I get tickets... My driving record is terrible and I've had quotes range within a $4000 difference between quotes... One thing I've learned is that there is always a company out there willing to give a chance... talk to everyone you know and find out who they go through and keep getting quotes... Also do you have anything insured in your own name right now? Or have you before?

No tickets or anything, g2 driver, never been insured, live in the city, have driving school.

The price for a ranger is cheap, all my buddies from around here pay around $350 for their cars monthly. I called 6 different brokers and some of the prices were so outrageous that the person I was speaking to didn't want to even tell me lol.

Also, every 3 years here you can take a defensive driving class and save 10%
I added a renters policy to mine for $17 a month and it saves me $30. Thats $156 saving a year just for extra protection.

Did they tell you if it would go down substantially once you get your full G? The big problem for you is you've never been insured before... That's going to mean a high cost regardless

Yeah, I know it will drop after I get my G. It'll also drop once I turn 20, I just hate that I have to pay that until then haha

Not much you can do for the time being brother given you're on a provisional license with limitations, not yet 20 yrs old, no previous insurance record and live in a city with a high population this is just the reality.

That said though you need to weigh your options.... If your Grandfather's Cutlass won't cost you a penny and it's just yours to drive once it comes out of storage then it would be cheaper to insure that instead of buying a ranger and paying insurance for it. Also once you get the G and hit 20 that will give you a bit of a break too so car shopping may not be the right idea right now. What about the civic and the beamer those weren't insured or you have them in someone else's name?

Bimmer wasn't insured, Civic was insured under a buddy and now it's just sitting in the driveway. The cutlass is only temporary from the way it looks as gramps wants to buy a '69 Dart, he said he would give me the Cutlass but I don't want him to get nothing out of it. It would be better off sold to someone else so he could put the money towards the dart. If insurance was cheaper right now I may have thought differently, but yeah. Next year if it drops down when I get my G I might bite into my rainy day savings and buy something special.

Haggerty.
Haggerty :iamwithstupid: or Grundy even too, agreed value, you chose how much & you pay for each unit of $1,000.oo per unit of value, Not sure if they insure in Canada thou...

Same here. How is your driving record?

Exactly what I was thinking, must not be great, wreck or speeding or some kind of points, or it' should be cheaper, unless it's completely different in Canada

Yeah, it's different here. My driving record is clean, no accidents, tickets, not even a parking ticket.

Exactly Budnicks that's the kicker.. along with having no previous insurance for a vehicle they nail you as the first timer.

The License system in Ontario is a graduated system G1 (learners permit accompanied driving, no 400 series highways etc..) then you take a short drivers entrance exam into G2 (provisional) then a longer entrance exam into G (full license) if I remember correctly you can carry your G2 for up to 5 years but the sooner you get it done and get time under your belt with the full G the rates will start to come down.

Oh and yes Hagerty is here and Lant is another Classic Car or Specialty Vehicle insurer here... None of them will touch me because you have to have maximum 2 infractions and I NEVER only have 2 infractions :(

Hi Bud.

Haggerty & Grundy work here as well. Thing is before they will insure you, you need 10 yrs driving experience & must have a daily driver. I looked into this for my son and his Sattie. He got his licence when he was 16, so he has to wait until he's 26 before he can get the classic insurance.
We looked at trying to insure it through regular channels, but most companies here won't insure stuff more than 20 yrs old.

Satman try JW Davis Brokers in Mississauga. They insure me through Perth insurance and my RR is the only car I have insured. It's not the price of Classic Car insurance but at least they'll insure an older car. Hope that helps

Bit the bullet and bought a ranger (I know, it escalated quickly...) $900 for a 97 with 200,000km. Clean body and a 4.0L v6.

Thanks for the info.

Right now the Sattie is off the road, getting restored. We figure 3-4 yrs or so before it's done. Right now he's driving a '10 KIA Forte for his daily. So we figure, by the time the Sattie "Clonerunner" is done. Classic insurance should work.

Nonetheless we'll keep JW Davis in mind.

Thanks
