KYB vs Monroe vs Bilstein?

Has anyone tried Viking shocks?
I have Viking Double Adjustable shocks front and rear on my street car; mainly for the bling and ability to alter the ride quality. They also customized the length for my application. Money wise, not in the same category as the other shocks mentioned.

Revalving makes sense.
Some shocks simply move with the suspension in a relatively straight line like our front shocks do.
The rears on our cars travel in an angle due to the mounting design our cars have. A shock that dampens just fine in a Camaro may not be enough to work on our rear axle. The angle of our rear shocks requires more restrictive valving to achieve the same level of dampening as shocks on a car with less of an angle.

Just remember there are oil shocks (OEM on our old cars), high pressure gas and low pressure gas.

Bilsteins for the 69 Charger as well. Don’t recall what was on it when I bought it but they were junk! Since the Bilsteins went on, I haven’t tried any others, or felt the need to!

I like the stock hydraulics on my Coronet. Rides nice. I haven’t really pushed the car around many corners yet.

Whaaaaaaaaa?!? They're missing out on a market. I noticed they said "automotive applications" on the website, didn't look any further. They likely cater to european/japanese/late model american stuff.
I used to have an Ohlins shock on my old ZX6R, with a rebuilt/revalved KYB fork. I never loved those forks, but that shock was perfection. Ohlins is like Brembo. The components are second to none, but they are built-to-order and they market to race teams and shops, not dudes like us. If you want Ohlins, I think you would have to find a shop that could spec the correct shocks and order them.

I'm shopping too.
I don't understand why Blisten has this part exposed to the elements.
Most every other shock mfg has the "piston stem" covered with a skirt as it exits doesn't it?
I'm sure it has a fine seal or wiper around it but seems like a bad place for dirt to accumulate around the stem as it retracts.

If you're looking for front shocks check the price on Koni 80-1538

The vehicle that sold me on Bilstein stuff for everything, was my 2003 3500 dually. I had 3 different "great shocks" from different companies on it. It always pogo'd over whoops on the highway. I found a good sale on the correct Bilstein units....and have never had a complaint since. Every street car I built/own, has Bilstein shocks, now.

Mine came with covers.

What do the covers look like?
Are they a conventional tube which attaches via the thread and nuts?

That's odd. I have bought 5 sets of Bilstein shocks now, and none of them came with covers. Seems like there was a thread on here awhile back where someone called Billstein and was told they don't figure shaft covers are necessary.

Might be who you buy them from. I got mine from Bergman, and he shows them on his website with the covers.

Just a plastic cover that slips over the shaft. They have a metal bushing at the top where the shaft fits through. I've used them before and they work fine.

I bought all mine through PST. I'll check out the Bergman site to see if the covers can be bought separately.
