We have eliminated the Lean Burn System on a 360 as the result of another's sad attempt to do same.

We have wrapped and taped every electrical and vacuum part and port while installing a next generation Holley 2BBL -was 2245 series now 2300 series- at the recommendation of Holley as the 2245/R-8450-A was designed solely for the computer operation and would not work under natural aspiration as vac advance was part of computer ops...so also we've installed a new 84-3890 Cardone distributor with attached advance...

With the original carb we found no amount of blocking ports would make the vacuum advance work and the result was the car idled fairly only if the "Heat Intake Port" at the rear base of the carb was left open to the air, then we found using only mechanical advance the car would operate, but we had to be advanced to an un-gawdly spread for if we connected the VA to the carb, you'd think it was running on water with crossed wires.

So we installed a 2300 series/0-7448 with only timed port and PCV port, replaced the ECU, the distributor, upgraded the ignition coil, have new ballast resistor, plugs and wires. STILL if we plug in the advance, the car shudders and virtually refuses to run. Keep the vacuum disconnected and like the original carb she runs on the mechanical nearly fine, hook up the vac to the new carb and the same symptoms occur.

What are we missing? Taking ALL opines....

This is a crazy problem and I'm tring to wrap my head around it. Where is the base timing set and try watching the timing mark as you plug in the vac advance to see what it does.

Start fresh everytime we walk away and come back.....we've even sent back each of the ignition parts as 'defective' and replaced with same to try and eliminate each....bizarre to us and I have three mechanic's with 70+ years between'em scratchin' and frustragted as well....

Do you know the specifications of the distributor, i.e., mechanical advance start, intermediate and full advance, and what amount of vacuum is needed to start vacuum advance and what is its max advance. Could be the distributor mechanical and vacuum advance curves are just not suited for that motor and may need to be re-curved, i.e., springs or vacuum diaphragm, that is if its not a stock motor.

vac advance

All the Mopars I worked on use ported vacuum, with advance hooked up at an idle there should be no advance.
